Does anyone know if a single player has a standing on the course? It used to be that singles do not but not sure if this has changed over the years.

We were a 2 ball caught by a single recently who was quite rude and sarcastic demanding to be played through. You have to trust me when I say that this was the very first time that he had a whiff of a case of a play through, I'm vigilant and aware of people behind. This guy was just a arse who had a notion that he had a right to walk through and he mouthed off before we had a chance. The irony here is that it was our last hole as we heading off after 9, so we would not have called him through anyway. But had we carried on we would have waved him through 100%.

When I am a single on the course I dont know about you but I keep a reasonable distance from people ahead. I dont like to make people feel pressurised.

They do have a standing now but if the course is busy and you can't go anywhere (and in theory nor will he especially if there is a match or comp ahead of you) then he doesn't have a given right to play through.

Sounds like the guy was an idiot. I love to play a few rounds on my own and have some real "me" time to clear the mind and think (not about my swing) and if I'm catching a group up I'll play two balls, putt on the greens or if I can get away with it practice my chipping or bunker shots to let them move ahead

I'll paste this from the Etiquette section of the Rules of Golf book. Granted, the Etiquette section is actaually guidelines rather than rules, but....

"Priority on the Course
Unless otherwise determined by the Committee, priority on the course is determined by a group’s pace of play. Any group playing a whole round is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round. The term “group” includes a single player."

I'll let you decide for yourself what you should have done ;)

One problem is the first line - Unless otherwise determined by the Committee.
If a Committee wants to enforce a "single player has no standing" policy they can do so. In other words check local rules!

I note that Imurg has increased his handicap in his signature in advance of the result of todays stableford

Theres confidence for you
