Played: June 2011
Conditions: Dry, Humid, Slight Breeze

Overall points

Staff friendly, lad in Pro shop helpful.
Amenities good – Locker room fine, Lounge area good with great view of 18th green.
Sandwiches were triple deckers and fresh, prices fair.
Course tough
Tight Fairways must be hit to score well here.
Heather in rough means lucky if you find your ball.
Greens hard and true, though a little slower than I expected for links/ time of year.
Minor irritant – the greens had been cut that morning but the cuttings were still on most greens in neat lines. Surely a ‘cut and collect’ greens mower should be used. Instead greenkeepers out with blowers all afternoon clearing up.
Bunkers in pristine condition – almost a shame to walk in them.
Some blind shots – not an issue for me - marker posts to drive towards or over.
A couple of blind greens – the 1st in a dip, pin placement shown on tee.
Quiet day – felt like only ones out there most of the time.
Easy to get round. No need to be long – course management and fairways are key here

How I played

Lost 2 balls in heather on the 1st
Birdied 2nd and 3rd
Took irons off most tees to find fairways / 150 markers.
8 iron from 150 worked like a dream all day.
Found more balls than I lost.
3 hrs 30 mins of easy walking

In a Nutshell

An Enjoyable day trip. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back.

I'm pleased to see this get a mention. It always had a great reputation.

Welcome to the forum.

played there 2 years ago when i was up there on holiday - really enjoyed the course although i found it somewhat difficult due to the tight fairways. seem to remember i found more balls than i lost as well.
excellent reception and facilities, will certainly go back again one day.

I play here twice a year and love it dearly. seriously when i walk up the first I get a special feeling of homliness and contentment. Fantastic course and well worth it. Links at it's most natural and brutal (when windy).
