They can be useful if googling info on a particular club/component. I've been doing a lot of hunting for shaft info lately and have been directed to a few useful posts on sites I wouldn't normally visit by someone's signature. Also most sites search functions are poor so google helps filter out the background noise.

Does anyone really have an issue with signatures ? Really ?

Can this be put in the same box as pokerchip markers and where people stand ?

I think they are a good idea because they give you a bit of insight into the person

And it looks like Snelly is going to have a very interesting round :D

I just wanted to get rid of signatures when I first started reading forum as they covered a lot of the screen when using a small tablet or phone, as at that time GM did not have a mobile format.
I don't have a problem if someone wants to sign every post with the fact that they play with a Taylor made Tweakspeed Gigadriver, but if the same person replies a lot in one thread it's "yep, still gaming the Tweakspeed Gigadriver, just like 5 minutes ago..."

Of course, as I don't see signatures , I forget that I have one... maybe I should delete it!

I have no problem with them at all.

Perhaps the 'boffins' (hey look at me with all the techy-talk) could let a poster's first post in a thread show their signature and then hide it in any subsequent ones.

My own is inconsistent and seems to come and go - kinda like my golf game.

We need a thread on avatars next! (I'll leave that to JohnnyDee, our official thread starter!)

I think Sigs are just a thing with forums. I've been on loads of photography forums too and it's the same there. Everyone listing every little bit of gear down including the type of clamps that hold their lights on. The Admin for the forum got fed up with it and allowed them to link to a separate thread entry with the link "My Gear". Anyone wishing to see the stuff could click the link and they are taken to that forum entry for that person. The sigs were limited thereafter to just website link and quirky photography quote of their choosing.

Like so many of the so called contentious issues on here they don't really bother me.

I don't personally display one and I have my settings so I don't see others as I find them rather boring and space-consuming.

But if others like them and want to share that info' why not? It's optional after all.

At least they have the signatures separated from the text of the post.
Some forums just let the post run into the sig, and if the sig is a pithy one liner, it can make the post confusing!

I like seeing handicaps, links to people's club website and, to a lesser extent, even the clubs people use.

I was also forced to put a wee note into mine....

I like the signatures. Good to see what people play, especially when a discussion on clubs turns up. Also like has already been said it can be a good way to get a bit of knowledge on a particular product.

I was looking at a 3w a while ago with the OBAN Devotion shaft fitted, straight away I sent a PM to Ethan to see how he thinks it plays as I know from his signature he has one. If I had put it to the forum for I would have probably got 5 pages of opinions on various shafts and the person I wanted to speak up might not have.
