Signature Holes

Agreed....the only issue with that at the moment is that you can't see the big pond to the left of the green from the tee.......you know the water is there, but you can't see it.
Most people agree this would make the hole even better and then without a doubt I would say it would be the signature hole.

Yeah - no idea if there is some way that they could bring that water into view - it would be a special looking hole

Either raise the tees even more and to the right......or remove the left hand green side bunker mounds, or lower them .......either would work......my preference would be to raise the tee and to the right.....this way, you are also playing more towards the water....

Yep can see that now - would certainly increase the visual aspect as well as making the hole play a bit tougher with the mental aspect of the pond.

The 16th is our signature hole, a driveable par-4 that features an island-green surrounded by water.

The grass channel into the green is guarded either side by bunkers; all down the left is hillocks and a row of bunkers down the right.

Like that one very nice hole :)

160 to 180 yards across a dry chalk valley to a thin green, carry all the way.
Hole is right on the chalk valley side above the Thames between Wargrave and Henley with views of the Thames and the Chilterns and Henley itself
Because it is right on the side of the valley/"cliff" we have 10s of Red Kites swooping and soaring on the thermals.
Very very pretty.
Tough shot too

Can't remember a thing about it Rich - blocked from the memory banks!!!

I am happy to refresh your memory.:D Seem to remember you played the hole either from the 10th fairway, or the patio outside the clubhouse.:eek:

Over the years I have hit the Clubhouse roof, the Pro shop, and the car park.:(

Slasher Nash has fond memories of the hole, and I remember Homer playing a lovely bunker shot out of the left hand greenside bunker with about 30 of us on the balcony breathing down his neck.;)

Ours is our 15th. 285yd Dogleg par 4. If you can hit a slinging high draw it's reachable in 1. If the tee is generous. You can't see the green from the tee. All of the fairway is huge moguls up to 6 ft tall. Green is large, but incredibly undulating. Lots of large double breakers. Green also protected left with a bunker, and a 20 ft mound behind (old lime kiln) that blocks the wind so you don't know how much wind is blowing when you chuck your wedge at it. Also can't go short on the green as it will roll back off 15 yards. Love it.

It's a good line in from the 10th - as long as you hit a high 7 iron!

How I got the ball out from the heather, across the green and onto the patio I'll never know.....

I'm surprised you couldn't smell the fear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost made the par putt too

So what exactly is a signature hole? Is it the most visually striking, the toughest or the most memorable?

Take Broadstone for example.....

Visually striking is now probably the 14th, a par 4 from a raised tee down into a valley then back up to the green with quite a few deep bunkers in view.

Toughest would be either the 13th or 16th, both longish and tough par 4's.

Or the most memorable.....the 7th which is the rollercoaster par 4 that everyone remembers.

For me it would have to be the most visually striking but there are holes at Broadstone that I enjoy playing a lot more than the 14th.

We don't at the moment but there are a few of us working on that.
If we get it it will be our 15th. 162yards, over a pond, between trees (depending on the club you use) to a green that has a narrow gap between two bunkers guarding the front.
Great hole and looks fantastic from the tee.
