Does your course have a declared signature hole and if so, do you agree with it?

What do you think constitutes a good signature hole, is it standing on the tee and saying to yourself, wow, what a great looking hole, or is it its test of golf plotting yourself down it with varying degrees of hazards amongst a picturesque setting, backdrop or open views?

If you don't have a declared signature hole at your club, which would you say it was and why?

we do, its our 3rd. 164 yard par 3. tee box is about 60ft higher than the green (at least) you have to thread your tee shot through the tops of the trees and land on the very well guarded green which is surrounded by dense woodland and is amazing to look at in spring when the flowers are in bloom.

Let me know when you fancy it Robin and I will show you!!

Found a pic on the club website from behind the green, the tee box is way up past right hand corner of the pic.

Our 9th, Par 3 about 180 from the Whites, through a narrow valley with garbage all down the right plus a stream the meanders down the right hand side and right around the right side of the green.
If the flag is on the right hand side of the green you cannot see it from the tee. You can bail out left but still have a steep bank to chip down from.
There used to be a bunker set in this bank but it as been filled in.

Ohhh just found a video tour of our 3rd, it actually looks more dramatic in person, and the course has matured even further since the video was done last year i think...

Not sure we have a designated signature hole or not. There are several (16th in particular) that always look stunning off the tee. Is a signature hole designated on its looks or should it be a great, (doesn't have to mean tough) one to play.

I suppose the first one that springs to my mind is the 10th on the Brabazon. I like it. A classic risk reward.

I've played a number of courses and come to the so called signature and thought "nah, the xx was a better hole" and others where you can see immediately why it's got its tag. Does it actually matter if a club has one or not? Good thread this and be interesting to see what signature holes come up

Our 18th. Anyone that has played it will probably remember it, especially if they have missed the green by a few feet right.

Been there; done that! Just missed the up and down, but a further 2 good putts were needed to complete the hole!

Going long to a 'front' pin on 13 (either flyer or brain-fart from 70 yards!) wasn't/isn't a smart idea either! Short to a back one wouldn't be good either!

Don't think there's any doubt about the Sig hole at The Shire - it's got a bleeding great 'S' shaped pond! Tommy Horton did similar at Windlesham, but with bunkers.

Can't remember a thing about it Rich - blocked from the memory banks!!!

We don't have a Signature hole as such and I'm struggling to think which would get the nod.
Possibly the 1st - only 385 yards but many play it as a par 5 due to the cross ditch at 160-200 yards...?
Possibly the 4th - 450 yard slinging dogleg right past 2 huge trees...?
Possibly the 9th - a 420 yarder doing the opposite..?
Possibly the 13th -long straight and downhill but quite picturesque..?
Possiblybthe 15th - 160 yard uphill and over a ditch with woods right and behind..?

I don't know........

I can't remember what our signature hole is at Hinckley, got a feeling it's supposed to be our 222 yard par 3 18th but in my opinion there's far better holes.

My favourite hole in the courses i've played in England would have to be the par 3 3rd on The Dukes at Woburn, I never tire of playing that. Sensational.

Courses in essex i have played that stand out are the 8th at blakes golf course,110 yard par 3 very much like sawgrass 17th and mardyke 17th that is 320 yards iron off tee to leave a 2nd shot over a huge pound with a 9 iron to a small island green through loads of over hanging trees.

Ours is the par four 15th 285yrds OOB on the right and water on the left, its a risk and reward hole that gets very tempting when the wind is behind you. However I prefer the 11th a par 3 at 185yrd I think it's the best hole on the course, it has an elevated tee and a kidney shaped green.

Yep our 11th

Downhill par three through a valley of trees with a lethal green

Henry Longhurst put it into his top 100 holes in the country

My local municipal Cocks Moor Woods has a par 3 called; THE BOMB HOLE. It plays as 106 yards off the yellows and is named after a big dip between the tee and the elevated green. Hence the 'bomb' appearance. If you manage to end up in the bomb, you can take a free drop, but the DZ is actually a harder shot than the tee shot. Lovely little hole that can wreck your card!!

Not sure we have one.

17th perhaps (short par 3 surrounded by pot bunkers) or maybe even the 1st (par 5 with bunkers all over the place).

Your 12th was one of my favs but reckon the last par 3 could be a cracking signature hole

Agreed....the only issue with that at the moment is that you can't see the big pond to the left of the green from the tee.......you know the water is there, but you can't see it.
Most people agree this would make the hole even better and then without a doubt I would say it would be the signature hole.
