I have been thinking this for a while as my confidence with my current putter is clearly shot as my recent efforts (particularly at princes with Leftie & Smiffy) have been awful.

My putting stroke has been analysed and the pro says it is good.

If I pick up another putter and have a go Im fine but when mine is in my hands I just have these doubts, even over 3ft putts, but with a mates putter Im confident.

I have been offered £70 for my putter trade-in which is excellent and it has really tempted me.

What you reckoning folks?

£70 for your putter is an ace deal. I reckon if you have lost confidence get a new putter.

Have you got your eye on one? I still love my spider and really recommend trying it, im thinking of getting the baby version for the summer.

The spider seems a good putter from what Ive heard but it just doesnt do it for me aesthetically which is a bummer as I know these things shouldnt bother me.

I like the odyssey white-hot number 1, that seems a good putter. Also like the studio-select but Im not going to spend that sort of dough as my mrs will leave me practsising celebacy having just bought a go-kart last week.

Have a try with the new Taylormade core classics. Mine has given me loads of confidence and a £70.00 trade in means a new one will only cost a tenner

Why not persevere with it for a while Jon?

Let's face it, the conditions at this time of year are not really god, what with soft spongy greens, possibly pock marked with pitchmarks.
May be worth while keeping hold and give it a serious go when the weather improves and the greens become better to play on.

Get rid, if you lose complete confidence in your club, change it. Confidence cant be taught, it can be bought though.

My advice would be to stick it out a bit longer. I'm putting poorly at the moment but I know that before the wet winter weather came I was beginning to really get on with the itsy bitsy spider. I put it down to bad conditions on the greens (or temps) and believe that I am still doing the right things technique wise and that it will come back. The greens I played on yesterday were the worse I've seen in ages so I didn't really bother too much on lining putts up (why bother when a 4 foot putt jumps 6 inches off line).

If you decide to look I know odyssey are bringing a new range out for 09 so it may be worth waiting a bit and seeing if they help.

Jon,

"Currently using a TM Rossa series Siena 4, was my best friend when I got it, just like my odyssey 2-ball was."

Having said that, then you were obviously able to use them to good effect at some time or other. As Hommer says, wait a little until conditions and the weather improve. Thats the time to do some work on your putting for the season ahead.

Whay you have are two different styles of putter, so you should be able to get one of them onside before the season gets too long in the tooth.

Just remember most of your putting is affected by what goes on between your ears. Keep things nice and simple and don't think too much and you should be fine.

I'm selling a Ping G5 Craz_e!

You know you want it!

(gotta try!)

If it no longer feels right for you, or its not doing the job, I would change it, it took me about 20 putter changes to find the one that suits me best but I still keep looking just in case. If you feel good about your use of the putter but are not getting results, get rid of it as you have little to lose in my view.

I always come back to my Yes putter no matter what else I buy putter-wise.

I tend not to get on with mallets in the long term & I always come back to bladed putters.

I really hate selling putters on as I always like a choice available to me, should my main putter feel stale for a bit.

i got rid of my putter & bought a scotty cameron detour, it has stopped so much 3 putting over the last few months. Definetly has bought me confidence. if u can afford it go for it.

Jon,
You seem to be forever changing sticks. Remember when it was all Cobra?
If that is what gets you going, then go ahead.
I prefer old putters. The present one is an old Ping Anser and it will remain with me for ever I hope.

I've recently changed and got the Spider putter. From 3+ putting on every green I have played 18 holes and had three 3 putts, two 1 putts and 14 two putts and my scores have fallen.

Go for a new putter is my advice.

Good point Viscount. Winter & winter greens are hardly the time to worry too much about putting. In winter there can be little consistency in the greens so little point worrying too much. Its easy to loose faith. But don't. Which also means its not really the best time to be trying out new putters, though many will be tempted to.
