Shortest day yes, but sunset has been getting later (ie evenings longer) for about 10 days already. Conversely, sunrise still gets later for about another 10 days.

From the time of this post it's not until another 4 hours that the sun will start it's apparent journey north from the Tropic of Capricorn.

Surprised that you haven't pointed out that all days are approx the same length i.e. a tad under 24 hours:rolleyes:

No 2 days are exactly the same length because of the Earth's elliptical orbit.
Some are longer than 24 hours, while others are shorter.
As I write it's now 3 hours to the solstice.
The days will then start to lengthen very slowly at first.
There's also a problem with clocks. They don't quite represent solar time.

My folks' wedding anniversary today. The old man always points out that not only is it the shortest day, but that also means it's the longest night...so he can get even more sleep in ;):ROFLMAO:

Played 36 today and roll on the lighter evenings.

Although it's great going out as a single at 2pm and being done by 4.15.

Looking forward to this already, can’t beat a bit of evening golf. As the sun sets and the wind typically silent (round here at least), just perfect
