I'd say that a shortened club will not be upright enough.

After that, I get discombobulated.

I had an inch taken off my driver shaft, did nothing but help me find the middle of the face more often and took a little distance off the big ones, generally my average went up as I found more fairways!

I expect irons would need some adjustment to retain lie as they sit very different to woods on the ground.
