Shortening Irons

My friend has been given some clubs that are 3/4" long and 2* upright and a stiff shaft.

Reading online it said that if you shorten the shaft then this would alter the club lie and in this example would bring the club back to a standard lie with standard length shaft (taking the 3/4" off) It also mention that the shaft would be stiffer.

Would it be best for him to have the clubs adjusted back to "standard lie and length" or to leave them alone or would the change be too drastic?

Thanks.

big part of this will be how tall was the guy they came from to how tall you are, arm length and wrist to floor etc and norm address posture - plus how the swing motion presents dynamic lie at impact

if the guy you got the clubs from was a good ways different in height, arm length etc then the clubs will need altering both for length and lie - but even if you both more or less identical in measurements - the swing motions would be different in the two dynamic impact conditions so the lie could very well still need to be adjusted

it's true shortening the shaft would make the shaft a tad stiffer - whether you notice though would depend how tuned in the swing motion is
it would also change swing weight a tad and overall weight - again it depends whether that is real noticeable

very best answer would be find a Pro who gives lessons using a GC2 HMT launch monitor who would have a standard length, & lie 6i to hit and measure what you would really need
then the clubs you got could hopefully be adjusted - that too depends how old they are so condition of metal, what they are made of, how they were made 'cast' or 'forged'

Would 3/4" make that much difference over a "standard" length club, and also existing clubs were fitted and yellow dot ping 1&1/2* up rite so would 2* up rite make much difference?

depends first off when hitting the irons is there a repeated shot outcome issue or issues

it's impossible to say for sure how much they are or could be limiting your chances of better shot outcomes without getting them checked out preferably with you hitting balls on a GC2 HMT with PGA Pro/club fitter

if the length is too long for you it will affect the golf posture to a certain detriment if lie is out some that could magnify the issue as well

also clubs that are too long for the swing to control can affect accuracy, consistency
