The trouble with shorts is not really a play thing, its usually after play where these shorts always seem to take on the image of a crumpled up pair of Jimjams and then you have to be in the same room as hairy sweaty legs in the clubhouse bar. :(

I never think people look very smart at all in shorts, they never seem to fit anybody quite right and they always seem to look scruffy after a round, and some of the legs we have to avert our eyes from before collapsing in laughter are beyond belief. :D

Im not against most forms of dress when they look smart and tidy, thats all, nothing more or less than that, I just think shorts are either scruffy or daft looking on some people from the off and on others, end up scruffy by the end of a round.

Im fed up seeing people look like egg on legs on the golf course :D

I vote Ban the shorts. ;)

shorts are fine by me, (but then I think I have the legs for them :D).

I absolutely refuse to accept rulings on dress from anyone who wears stretch pants over the age (or size) of 12.

I think the three-quarter 'short/longs should be banned for the sake of humanity for all (check the mirror they do not work with golf shoes and especially with short socks)

I think I may offend Cernunnos as I don't button polos to the neck (you just look as if you've forgotten your tie).

Let me reword that, collars with buttons...rofl.. The only time I button up a buttoned (with buttons) shirt, is when its with a jumper & its blowint a force9.

tbh I'm happy with anything as long as it looks smart, which means I'm moreopen minded than most clubs.

Coming back to shorts for themoment I like wearing shorts, but flying insects tend toeat me alive & I tend to react badly these days, especially after I was badly bitten by a swarm of Scotish midge many years ago, any bite these days turns nasty. So it really has to be hot for me to risk shorts.

As long as you have got the build/legs for it I see no probs with shorts or cargo shorts as long as they are not extreme.

I find the tailored shorts and long socks thing hysterical but then again if they want to look like knobs fair enough.

Having said that if I am playing in a comp or match I would always wear longs/chinos. Not really sure why people find chinos offensive. For a casual round/practice/few holes in the evening I will wear either tailored shorts or cargoes but it has got to be better than 70degrees.

The main thing that needs to be remembered is that people pay a lot of money to belong to clubs and join for their enjoyment, not to be dictated to by superannuated old f**ts with nothing better to think about.

As long as what you are wearing is clean and tidy then fair enough.Having said which no large logoes, footie shirts etc.

And to the noob who regularly plays on our course in the summer who thinks that wearing odd coloured hooped rugby socks with shorts and thinks it is cool...mate it just isn't OK?

The biggest crime of all has yet to be mentioned.

Navy chino style shorts, with black golf shoes and black work socks.

Any one wearing this, should be shot. Twice.

Golfers should look like golfers no shorts at anytime

Define "golfer"

I know a few pro's (not tour players mind) and in the summer, they love to wear shorts.

I cant wait for the warm weather and really like wearing my tailored shorts with white ankle socks and smart shoes.

I am a bit of a sun-worshipper to be honest and the first chance I get I cant wait to start working on a nice tan!

Do you not watch golf on television - "Golfers its quite easy" golf clubs need to keep there standards no where else does nowdays

I do watch golf on TV, of course I do.

This reeks of snobbery Im afraid, even at my very posh private members club, tailored shorts are permitted.

Just because the pro's dont do it doesnt make it wrong and I will continue to wear shorts and infact would encourage anyone else to get some sun also!

tailored shorts are ok as long as i dont have to wear them. personally i wear Alberto golf trousers because they fit perfectly. if it's cold i put on my long johns

I could throw snobbery back at you for your "very posh members club" it is mearly my opinion that when you play golf you should look like a golfer I do not think that golf is a game for shorts you don't have to run around I would not play with someone who turned up in shorts

Its clear you feel strongly about it if you would refuse to play with someone in shorts, very strongly.

I despise Arsenal but I would still play with someone with a gooners headcover on their driver though!

As for the "very posh" comment, it is used to make the point that shorts are, whether you like it or not, generally very well recieved.

There are certain instances even I will not wear shorts, like on holiday, no matter how hot, I always wear long trousers and a double-cuffed shirt to dinner, much as I do at home when we venture out for an evening meal.

No hard feelings by the way, we are just in 2 very different camps.

Seeing as you have a mizzy avatar, how do you rate the MP57 irons?

Actually the Arsenal headcover is on my putter.

And towel, and ball marker.

I am a bit indifferent to shorts. I like to wear them if it is really hot, although I don't play well as I don't feel like a golfer. I also don't like it as I spend my life in the bundu looking for other peoples drives, and get bitten and stung.
I am a bit of a magnet for midges etc, and often wear longs for protection.

It has to be truly hot and sticky before I expose my legs on a golf course.

One advantage to wearing shorts is that you get to see what your legs are doing during the swing. It can be quite distracting. Lilly white knees all over the shop. I am sure they aren't meant to move over there.

No problems I was just bored and trying to invoke some strong opinions nothing personnel not a lot happening today.
this is possible not the best time to point out I am an Arsenal fan (kills me to say it but nice win against chelsea on saturday)

MP 57's nice clubs one of my mates has just bought a set not played with him since he got them (last Thursday) but he loves them I am thinking about the MP62's at the mo

Tailored shorts with white socks are fine with me.

I was at the lane on saturday to witness the great victory. How Drogba is not fined for his constant diving and moaning at the ref I do not know. I dont think any of the tv covered it but at the end of the first half he pretended to be ko'd. Woody put him in the recovery position and put his hand in his mouth to pull out his toungue and he lay there lifeless.

The physios pulled him up after a few minutes and walked him off, he had a grin on his face and came out for the second half, had he have been knocked out he wouldn't be able to play on... which he did. I hate the bloke.
