I raised this in another post - the fact that I had my shorts on for the first time this year yesterday to play. It's my intention to try and wear them through til Spetmber now.

How do you feel about shorts on the golf course?

I predominantly do wear trousers however in the summmer, I have been know to crack out the tailored shorts.

The only objection I have every had was when someone complained about my tattoo on my right leg.

The lady in question viewed the ink on my leg unacceptable but the senior gents, with sailor-tattoos all over their arms and hands were fine in here eyes. The complaint was thrown out instantly btw.

Of course then there is the collar question. Now obviously T-Shirts & Football shirts are not allowed. But I think the Hi collared turtle neck T-shirt like Tiger made popular looks very smart And then if a buttoned polo is Okay, then why not a buttoned rugby shirt, so long as there are no oversized logo's or numbers.

For me its smartness, not necessarily the item in question that is the issue.

so smart tattoo's...rofl.

Sorry, can't really vote on any one. I think most are acceptable. But I really think shorts are a bit of a no. Maybe it's just because I don't have the legs, or maybe I think it's too American. You don't see the Pros wearing shorts in Dubai or Florida, and it's a damn site hotter out there.

If I had to pick one, it would be the tailored trouser option. I don't mind the 'Tiger' style tops, though you do need to be the right shape for them, and that passed me by some 15 years ago.

Rugby / football tops (you can't call them shirts) are a big no, as are 3/4 length trackies, etc.

We had a group of lads sat on the patio of the nineteenth on Saturday, one with his 't' shirt off. Eventually one of the staff said something to him. They were all wearing trackies and football shorts and trainers. I guess this is the problem with a members club that also has pay'n'players.

It's not that I object to their outfits per se, just that there's a time and a place for wearing the correct 'uniform'.

CanfordHacker, you missed out the Plus 4 option!

No problem with people wearing shorts on the course as long as they're of a smartish appearance.

Totally disagree with the shorts and knee length socks rule, or how to look a complete knob whilst playing golf!

I once put on a pair of shorts prior to setting off for a round last year. The wife pleaded with me to change them for trousers just in case I saw anyone that knew me up there!

Tailored shorts with short white sports socks. This is the rule at my club. I think they are comfortable in realy warm weather. If your worried about the leg issue, i only have to look at some of our lady members legs to realise that maybe mine arn`t so bad.

Sorry guy's I hate seeing grown men wear shorts on a golf course. So I'm not voting. They looking stupid no matter what kind of socks you wear. (on a golf course)

shorts are fine by me, (but then I think I have the legs for them :D).

I absolutely refuse to accept rulings on dress from anyone who wears stretch pants over the age (or size) of 12.

I think the three-quarter 'short/longs should be banned for the sake of humanity for all (check the mirror they do not work with golf shoes and especially with short socks)

I think I may offend Cernunnos as I don't button polos to the neck (you just look as if you've forgotten your tie).

As long as whatever is worn is smart & the golfer doesn't look like a featherless chicken.

That's why men have hairy legs....!!!

I'm well up for playing in shorts. I also have lightweight white shoes and these look ok....I like short socks, If I'm smart, then I don't expect to be "in breach".....
