iv been using a matrix 6m3 black tie shaft stiff flex at 44 inches for my driver but i tend to spray the ball a lot so has anyone ever cut down a shaft and noticed good difference in control ? also how did you determine how much to cut ? i thinking about 39-40 inches may work better.
i averagely carry the ball 250-260 yards so don't mind losing 15 or so yards. Any tips?

That would make it shorter than a 3 wood

I know a few 3 woods come in at around the 43" mark (The new Mizuno EZ fairway is 42.3/4").

You already have a 'shorter than standard' shaft 44". If you're spraying it about that much, get a lesson.

Wouldn't recommend chopping a driver down that short, it will have all sorts of effects on flex, swingweight etc.

As stated, either get a lesson or use a 3 or 5 wood off the tee

how are you measuring it? To measure the length of a club it's from the base of the club to the grip end.
the cleveland classic custom playing length is 45" personally I would only take 1/2" or 1" max off.
You'll need to add weight to the head to get swingweight back as well.
Why not just try another shaft 1" shorter, easy to do before you go chopping the shaft down,
