Seve in the Open

i watched the great man hole that putt against watson in 84 and the man`s a legend all over the world probably more so up here in st.andrews ..he`s welcome back anytime even if he`s not at his best ..st.andrews has a special place in his heart and most probably it`ll be his last open at st.andrews ..here`s hoping he`ll be fit enough to play and with watson hanging up his `open spikes` it should be some week ...can`t wait ;)

I would rather remember him as he was in his prime, I think its a bad idea him playing. As someone said he won't even make the cut.
Has anyone seen the circus of Ali going round the UK for the last 2 weeks. Goodness sake have people no shame. The man can't even talk let alone wave at the supporters.

I'm in the NO camp
sorry

Sadly, I wasn't into golf during Seves time, wish I had of been. Maybe because of his illness it's a positive outlook on his road to recovery, and the reason why he's set this goal.

Heard a nice story about Seve recently.

A lad that used to work in the pro shop at my club, when a teenager, went to see Seve at Wentworth during what must have been a practice round. He was in the trees looking for a way out, the lad said to his mum, "I bet he can't get it through the gap and on the green". Seve heard this and quickly turned round and said,"Who say that". The lad said," me, bet you a pound you can't do it". Seve said, "ok eers ma pound young boy". Of course, he got through the gap and the ball made the green. And he turned to the boy and held his hand out for the pound! Such was his competitiveness.

Golfmmad.

freddie, I think we do all back him, and I also think that there is no argument that if he could produce a reasonable pair of rounds then we would all love to see him, but it's that if.

But until he plays how do you know I bet you would have all written of Tom Watson before the open. I for one would rather watch Seve shoot a pair of 88's, than another Stuart Cink victory, there would also be an upside to Seve playing poorly, imagine all that hardcore short game action.

But until he plays how do you know

As much as I love the guy....I know.

I would willingly place my months salary on him missing the cut by at least 10 shots.
Would you be as confident placing YOUR salary on him MAKING it?
Let's not look at life through rose tinted glasses. The guy is finished as a player. He wouldn't even make a decent living on the seniors tour.
As I said earlier, he was my hero. A God. But so was Muhammad Ali. Watching him in his last fight was a tragedy to every true boxing fan. He was an embarrasment and a mere shadow of his former self....
I would rather live on the memories of both great men.

I'm sure that a BBC reporter said his illness had left him nearly blind in one eye, this surely can't help with lining up his putts but don't forget his true grit, determination & refusal to give up both on the course & off as has recently been proved with overcoming his illness, this shows the kind of man he is, i really hope he comes to St Andrews firing both barrels & shows us once again the Seve magic. I wish him every success.

Listen folks. Seve will never play in another Tour event.

His disease and surgery will have, as hinted above, caused damage to his neurological function that is incompatible with playing professional golf. His tumour has been reported as being similar to that which just killed Ted Kennedy, and he lasted about 15 months from diagnosis.
