Selling a fairly high value car privately

pistonheads.com is also a good site to try and sell cars on. Normally 'better' clientele of buyer on there, as they are enthusiasts about cars.

We buy any car is just the start price for the haggle with the dealer. Remember they have at 30% mark up on new cars before VAT. Never pay full RRP push their selling price down and then push up the trade in ... The best discount that we have ever managed is 23% on new. But that is being open to a few colours etc..
Cash buyers don't have an advantage over trade in customers, that is a misnomer.
You have clearly never worked in the motortrade with the 30% mark up pmsl.

If we made more than 2-3% from a new car it was a result.

I was waiting for him to come back and confirm it was car dealers he was talking about!!
I've been in the trade for 30 years, and we got 17% all that time ago.
That was reduced to 12% and then 10.
We are now on 4% front end with the possibility of unlocking up to another 3% subject to hitting various targets and operating standards.
If we had 30% we'd have to give 29% of them away to greedy gits.
I remember telling a customer who was pushing me for a deal that we had 12% margin in our cars, how much of that did he want to do a deal.
15% came the reply.
I showed him the door.
