What is the new way Homer?

As it is now the current Vice Captain (Captain elect) picks his Vice for the year in which he is captain. The current Vice picks who he wants and if you agree the deal is that you will be Vice one year and Captain the year after.

What we are now told that this is breaching the equality act as in theory the role is only open to who the gets asked rather than the whole of the membership. Going forward the Vice Captain (Captain elect) or even the committee won't have a choice and it will be names on a list from whoever wants the job and the members get to vote at the AGM.

I can see the argument that it could pass through the same group of friends in a clique but it has always seemed to work well in the past. I just think it can cause more issues for future development/planning if the Captain and Vice don't see eye to eye therefore.

There's also another part of the changes proposing the the women members pay the same as the men. But that probably an argument for another thread.

You're almost right G'man. The committee can still use the old process to make their choice but it should then be appended to the nominations sheet, along with the rest of the nominations for committee. If the members want to challenge that choice they do it via the usual election process. I've only ever seen a second name up once, and it was withdrawn before the election.

Like most - the Captain asks 19 people who refuse, the 20th says yes and he becomes the new Vice Captain. When asked, my reaction is " thanks very much, but not if I was to be picked up every Sunday in a gold limo" !

One of my old clubs had a strange system.
The new captain was announced on Captain's day and took office at the start of the following year.
The retiring captain then took on the role of vice captain [but not called that] and covered any events the new captain was unable to attend.

Seemed to work quite well.
