 I belong to a Golf Society (Domino Golf) and we played a 36 holer today at Temple , near Marlow. Bucks.

My Society handicap is 26 , (now reduced to 24), which is different to my normal handicap of 21, The man in charge has been told of my normal handicap but says that as we travel around different courses, he is happy to use his own system, (my last few scores have been 23 (Dec)
31 (March) and 30 (May),

Anyway today I had a very good round including a 2 and 2 other birdies to reach 38 points,

I have silverware and a few quid and backed myself on the tote as well.

as mentioned , society handicap has now been cut to 24, but im really pleased with the overall improvement in my game

And Temple is such a lovely course, and is in great nick

My first 36 holer as well ( scored 35 in the morning session, but we were taking off the number of putts from our stableford score, I had 31 putts so ended on +4 which was 3rd place

Happy Fragger :)

Well done Fragger!

Society handicaps can be a bit 'troublesome' for those with real handicaps, so it's good to someone being reasonable - extending it to your buffer.

Interesting alternative scoring (subtracting putts) btw. I know of another society where there's a prize for 'number of putts' so almost the opposite!

Well played sounds a good, and an interesting alternative scoring method.
Stats based prizes seem on the increase I ayed an event recently where ther were prizes for FIR, GIR and number of putts.

It certainly was different, , the only problem I can see with it is that (Scenario A) hit green in regulation +2 putts would give you say 3 points less 2 putts = 1 point

Scenario B approach shot lands 3 ft off the green, chip on and 1 putt, still gives you 3 points, but less 1 putt = 2 points

It doesnt reward the green in regulation which is regognised as a "Key" stat and something that we all strive for.

Someone had -18 points, Not Good

I have very fond memories of Temple having played there for a couple of years while serving with the RAF at High Wycombe. It was, of course, Henry Cotton's course. Some of the funniest golf writing ever was centred around Temple - Michael Parkinson used to play there with an early evening news presenter, whose name escapes me, and Michael did a weekly column in the Sunday Times with hilarious descriptions of their antics.
