Scouts

Oh dear, sounds like a load of good intentions has backfired.

Highly naive of the leader in question, but to be honest, I’m more worried about the number of leaders leaving than the scouts delivering a few political leaflets . The young people would have read them I can guarantee that.

Scouts cannot function without the time and goodwill of the leaders, these people are generally the salt of the earth, and replacing them will be difficult.

It would be tragic if the group had to close because of this “ local difficulty”

Hope it can be resolved

Oh Tash the badge you are on about is called the unaware wombat, it depicts a blindfolded wombat on the edge of a cliff 👍

Sounds like when I was in the SJAB. When the mining industry was flourishing there was an abundance of ST John personnel. Pits shut and the SJAB lost folk by there thousands. It put more strain on those left behind in a sense of they were expected to do more. Times changed Health and safety got involved and most of the remainder said shove it.
Although I laughed when I read it, I kinda read between the lines and thought said scout leader has X number of hats to wear with not Enough time to wear them all and tried killing two birds with one stone.
A loss for the scouts and one up for the PC brigade me finks.

Couldn't agree more Phil. Been there, done that, and still got the uniform (which sadly is a little snug now :() In the locality where I did my bit, most of the cub's (and Sea Scout's) parents thought that we were paid (by sources unknown) to baby sit their offspring. They couldn't believe that it was all done voluntarily.

That stopped in about 1976, although it was resurrected a couple of years ago, but hasn’t taken off, all the dosh went to HQ as I recall,

It’s funny how people say “ Dyb dyb dob” when you mention scouts ( do your best, do your best, do our best”

That stopped in 1965 before I even joined the cubs .

When the wife run a guides group, it was a problem back in the 90s, with groups closing down and would have thought the problem has only got worse over the time since ?

Was a cub and then a scout and very naive back then about all the work that goes in by the volunteers on a weekly and annual basis. I don't ever remember odd job week even back then so assume it was already dying out

My memories of my BB days were getting KO'd at boxing, my brother breaking his wrist on the horse vault and going into a black smoke filled room wearing breathing apparatus...…...happy days.
Oh and oor we village won the County football Cup with me scoring direct from a corner.
Not a majestic top corner curler :( more of a sclaff that had their left back and goalie both going for it and it went in off the backs shin.:ROFLMAO:

My elder brother was a Scout but I am afraid that it was Boy's Brigade for me.

They had a football team in a league, the Scouts didn't.

It was called Bob a Job week, we use to knock on peoples door and ask if they needed any odd jobs doing, then you got paid an old shilling [ called a Bob . Cheap labour lol.

To risky these days to have kids knocking on strangers doors and then going inside :eek::eek:..
