I was at the range this afternoon giving my new G25's a workout and I accidentally ended up in the golf shop trying out some putters (as you do!! :D)

Had my first go with a Scotty Cameron, well 2 actually and now I am overcome with an overwhelming need to buy one.

Is there any known cure?

I did the same a couple of weeks ago. Didn't see what all the fuss is about. They look good but didn't feel 250 quids worth.

I really liked the feel of the milled face. I've been playing with a 2 ball mallet style with a face insert for a number of years now and haven't hit a smaller blade style putter for I don't know how long.

A new putter is to be my Christmas present but I reckon I'll be trying out the Ping, Odyssey and Mizuno offerings as well as the Scottys and will see what I end up with.

yes, the cure is spend £200 on the lump of metal them watch yourself 3 putt from anywhere and put it back up for sale at half the price:whistle:

They are a lot of money but for some people they will be the best putter for their style/courses/technique. I have had a few (usually bought on E-Bay or off the second hand rail) and they've all been nice. Recently got another after a while with different brands and have made a bit of an improvement with putting.

Honestly speaking I bought one and was really disappointed. I put it to one side and thought it would accumulate in value as it was untouched. Then the other week the greens were just quick, and the yes was just lacking feel. So I got the SC out and gave it an audition. Damn thing was a revelation, it was sublime, the feel and distance control was back. I went home and practiced on the carpet with it, got a routine on it and now I am loving it. Just managed to get a squareback 2 off eBay, looks a little sorry and now I am contemplating sending that off. It's slightly heavier so would be great for winter.
I admit I am fickle ...

Yes there is a cure you buy one :D

Scratch the itch and it will go away

Or to put it another way.

You have a driver that probably cost upwards if £200.

Spending the same cash Scotty is no different.

With the exception that you'd use the Scotty a dam sight more than the driver :D

Or you could try a Bettinardi!

At least same quality and generally much cheaper.

In fact, there's a rumour that the one that launched Scotty into the big-time was made by Bettinardi. Certainly loads of the Terylliums were made be Bettinardi - the ones without the Elastomer surrounding the insert

Plenty of other great putters out there too. Not an area that TM excels in though.

I went through a stage of buying Scotty's but now they are just sitting in a cupboard.

Might dig them out and put them on here actually

Yes there is.....trust me, they are not all they are cracked up to be. Purely reputation, there are much better putters out there for less money

From a man who has tried putters from every brand under the sun, I didn't notice a great difference between Scotty Cameron and other milled putters. For me, there was no real difference in feel at least between SC, Ping Milled or Odyssey ProType.

I am close to curing my putter itch by going full circle through all the expensive models back to an old Ping Anser 2, steel face. Slapped a new Ping TR grip on it, a headcover donated by Gibbo and it's good as new. Been in my bag for a couple of weeks now which is a BIG deal for me, it's even seen me in to the Rabbit match play semi final!

Practice with what you've got!
