Trying to plan a week visit to the homeland for late October and trying to avoid the autumn school holiday week. But when is it? Seems to be different dates for different counties. Looking to stay Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Dunkeld. Different counties, different weeks? Advice please on best week.

Different areas have different weeks [even some schools in the same areas]
Worse than trying to find out what the local Scottish bank holidays are
My advise is to just forget it as the reaction to Scottish holidays and bank holidays is pretty low impact [eg not like England.]
Of course Scottish prices always rise when it is the English school holidays. ;)
Ayr Gold Cup is our local BH, not sure if that is October.

I wouldn't worry different schools have different weeks and Scots on holiday usually try for the sun.
We actually often headed for Yorkshire when our kids were at school.

I live in Somerset and the weeks are different county by county this way as well.

Look at the website for each county you want to visit to get the dates to work out your itinerary.

Just type in school holidays and the area council, you’ll get a downloadable pdf with all the holidays, like others have said it varies between areas.

Yeh I know, as we are planning to stay Glasgow, Dumbarton, Perthshire and perhaps also Aberdeenshire…

So trying to find the best 7-10 days across that lot.

Don't worry, be happy.
Many folk ATM would love to afford a 7-10 day holiday (y)
Indeed - though the cost of accommodation these days in Scotland can be a bit  so may have to curtail it a bit.

We are going to Dunkeld to sort out a memorial dedication for my dear sister (who died suddenly, and not quite 60, last November), as I am hoping to have an inscription for her added to our grandparents headstone in Little Dunkeld Churchyard - if not then a small stone by their graveside - it'll be emotional 😢 We thought as we will be up we'll make a short holiday of it and likely visit some cousins.

I can only speak for the East of Scotland, but the Autumn break is two weeks. Known as the “Tattie Holiday” it was two weeks long so the kids could help with the harvest. The Spring and Summer mid term was only two days.

Prices are OK if you shop around and stay away from the honeypots
We have just booked a nice wee seaside cottage in South Argyll for £100 a night for 5 days over the August bank holiday [or is it a bank holiday in Scotland]

OOI I just Checked Fort William Premier Inn at that week ........£164 a night

East Lothian is in the east of Scotland. Only has one week holiday in October. A two week break is rare these days.
Kids don't pick potatoes anymore as:
1. Too lazy
2. Machines do it.

Aye, but they still get two weeks in Perthshire and used to in West Lothian when I stayed there. :)

Fife is two weeks. WC 9th Oct through Fri 20th.

Trying to line up all those areas sounds like more hassle than it’s worth.

Just price up the accommodation across the week or so that you want and decide if you can afford it.

Or, kids don't pick potatoes any more as
1. The pay is rubbish
2. It's back breaking work
3. There are better, alternative ways to earn money
4. If a machine can do unpleasant work, why wouldn't you let it?
