Scottish Golf

I think you may have missed my point. Agree you can't join Muirfield club but you can play Muirfield course so is there really an issue in the grand scheme of things?

Happy to drop the subject as well.

And that was what I meant by splitting hairs. Yes, it's an issue, just not the biggest one facing golf. Anyway, subject dropped.

...
My concern will be seeing how the new body balances the needs and development of both the men's and women's game; with the obvious fear that the women might end up playing "second fiddle". However, I don't think that will happen!
...

Having experienced several Scottish female managers (along with a few male ones) I can't see that being allowed to happen either!

I caught the tail end of this on the news tonight.

How will it change anything, assuming that's what they are aiming for? I just hope it's not change for changes sake.

I don't have a problem with it btw, I just never caught the full article and wondered if they had said a bit more on it, other than just announce it.

I think it's about pooling resources and making it easier to attract sponsorship. Plus the obvious PR benefits of modernising the sport and removing the anachronistic gender separation.

I just got this email today. I'll need to think about it.

That's rather expensive, even by London area standards! I thought golf was supposed to cheap and easily affordable in Scotland?

It's not exactly the local muni is it? You can probably count on one hand the clubs with anywhere near that sort of fee. The average is probably closer to £500 (that's just a guess BTW)

yes its not exactly typical of clubs in Scotland, in fact its more expensive than most of the open venues in Scotland and the couple of other high end courses.

only ones that i know would be more are,

Skibo
Muirfield
Archerfield/Renaissance

Gleneagles as well.

Gleneagles as well.

I wasn't sure Gleneagles was more than that, suppose it must be with 3 coures

There are male and female only clubs dotted around and I can see them refusing to budge on that policy but I think in general terms it makes sense to have it under one name and one body driving the game forward

Makes sense I suppose (if done properly).

Call me a cynic, but I reckon there will be rumblings of discontent when the gents/ladies perceive that more cash is being spent on ladies/gents specific areas than is being spent on theirs.

It would be interesting to know how much has been saved at the top of the tree in doing away with replication of office. I always feel that any notable savings are usually spent elsewhere in relocating those initially earmarked as surplus to requirement.

Pretty much every other sport seems to bumble along just fine with a unified structure, don't see why it won't work for golf. Can only be a good thing once the initial wrinkles get ironed out and they might be tiny.
