That is cloot. The clootie is the dumpling itself
My dad was never that persistent at explaining things fully.
Ta very much for clearing that up.

I'm similar with a lot of Welsh words picked up from my mother and grandmother. I can say them, but little idea of their correct spelling.

"Ne'er cast a cloot til mey's oot"

Oh and semolina

Jam and coconut topped sponge, or syrup sponge - both with lots of custard (no skin...) - winner!

The hospital restaurant does ginger sponge and custard. Big trays of the sponge and a huge vat of custard served with a huge ladle...keeps me going for about 4 days :-)

However you decide to have your Scone with clotted cream and Jam. It has to be washed down with tea and tea only. Anyone who drinks coffee with scones is a heathen with 6 fingers on one hand and deserves a lifetime infraction From the forum.
Re Scones, deffo jam then Clotted cream.
However Mr and Missis Tash were on our Jols at Dunster castle in Somerset last year. Now them Yokels did a warm cheese scone ( fruit scone has to be cold) with cream cheese and Chutney. Now that was food porn.
One of the beauties of travel is trying local delicacies, next week it is the turn of Inverness to tantalise my taste buds. Missis T has just booked a weekend in Bishop Auckland for next August for the Kynren show. So hopefully it’s fried mars bar time 😉 *

Ted Lasso’s opinion on tea is spot on.

I cannot vote in the poll because I like a scone, plain or fruit, with butter, then jam, then clotted cream, I will have other cream but I qwont be happy about it.
Correct. Butter (must be butter, not some weird kind of substitute), then jam, then cream on top (must be clotted).
This is the Cornish way.
Cream then jam is the Devon way.
My wife grew up in Devon, and we live in Devon, but both eat our scones the Cornish way.
