I've just signed up after buying a golf mag for the first time in years and seeing they had a forum. I spend a lot of time on the internet so now I can expect it to get much worse I guess.

A bit about me for anyone who wants to know...
I started playing golf seriously in my teens and by the time I got married (and hence stopped playing :() I'd got down to a 10 handicap.
Now, a few months later (ok... 240 months ) I decided to take the game up again, and love it even more than before. I think it must have something to do with having more patience now and being that much older have learnt to deal with disappointment better.

I've joined a club and handed 2 cards in so far for my new handicap, so hopefully have that by next week (since I'm hoping my 3rd will be later this week). It's just a shame that the competitions are starting to dwindle now the summer is coming to an end.

I've normally got lots to type (in real life I'm very quiet!) so I look forward to contributing (hopefully) in the forums. From what I've read so far at least half of you are barking so I think I'll enjoy it. :D

I've just done my sig and looking at it, it looks like I've just gone out and bought all new kit, but the reality of it is...... ok I bought all new kit.
I thought "sod it, I couldn't afford to do it when I was younger but I can now."
Only live once and all that! :o
 
Welcome to the forum Region3 ... Your story is one we have heard quite often on here for the past 3 years .. I would prescribe visiting the forum 4 times daily before or after meals and make as many deposits as you can.

Enjoy yourself and eep an eye out for your nearest forum day as they are legendary.

The way I see it you have to make a decision.

Spend all day on here keeping pretty much up with new posts as they happen, so you know whats going on.

Or

Pop in twice a day, find there have been 3-400 posts in your absence, and then take 2 hours each visit going through them all, so you know whats going on.

Either way, as of now, your life is no longer your own.

Welcome to the forum. I suggest leaving a cardboard cut out downstairs to remind the missus what you look like as there will be plenty of time dontated to the forum now. Its the place to be. Enjoy and great first post

Without making the thread twice as long by using quotes, I'll just answer a few of the questions here...

madandra, the forum days sound like a great idea. It wouldn't necessarily have to be close to me as I don't mind travelling within reason. I take it they're to be found in these forums, I'll have to keep an eye out for them.

CrapHacker, as with my wage packet, my life was never my own to start with so no loss there :D

Imurg, I might be a tart, but I wouldn't say a Titleist one. Before this set, the only Titleist I'd ever used was their balls.
What I will admit to though is that I prefer having my set made up of clubs from the same manufacturer. I know there's not much logic in that with technology nowadays, but that's just me.

When I decided to start playing again I bought most of my kit second-hand off ebay, so I could sell it again and not lose too much if I didn't get the bug back. I searched the internet for what people considered to be the best manufacturer of bladed clubs as I've never got on with cavity backs, and ended up buying Mizuno MP-32's . Me being me, I also bought Mizuno woods, wedges and putter. Also being me (10st wet through) I didn't think I swung the club very fast and bought all the clubs with regular shafts in them.
A couple of weeks after I decided that I would keep the clubs because I was enjoying it, I foolishly (and you will all recognise this as a schoolboy error) decided to go into my local golf shop and hit a few different irons.
I really wanted to get on best with the Mizunos, but although they were nice, the AP2's just felt like a cut above. A well struck shot felt amazing, and off centre ones I could tell exactly where the ball had come off the face and the results weren't disastrous.
I mentioned the clubs to the pro at the club where I play, and he suggested I get them fitted which is what I did. When I was at the fitting I was told that regular shafts were too flexible for the way I swung the club so I ended up replacing my woods and wedges as well.
I've changed my mind... Imurg you were right first time!

GB72, I play at Beedles Lake GC, which is about halfway between Melton and Leicester. Maybe we could meet up for a game sometime?

Homer, fortunately (or not) for me my main computer is a laptop so I spend my time on it in a semi-sociable state, at least I'm in the same room!
The cutout sounds like a great idea when I want to actually go and play though :D

Only been here a day and already will have a reputation for putting people to sleep :o

As to forum meets, there are several in the offing, which you can see elsewhere (Arrange a Game) but the North V South in October might suit you?

The next big (Midlands) meet is at The Belfry in two weeks (got to get the game back together), arranged by GM. Most other meets are arranged and hosted by forum members - some are already destined for annual status.

More kind words, thank you. I must say it's the best welcome I've had on any forum too, I just hope I haven't peaked too early :D

My avatar represents my other passion, 8-ball (English style) pool. Another very frustrating game when it's not going well and easy to over-analyse the technicalities, much like golf.
Anyone else play seriously?
