Kefalonia for me.
Santorini is visually stunning, but once the excitement is over the beaches and scenery in kefalonia are better imho.

Ive been there twice, the only downside to it now is that the cruise ships dock there because of this, so I'll 360 seeing as you mentioned quiet.

Santorini does look stunning. But I'm just concerned it might get a bit packed.

The criuse ships dock off Thira and that get very very busy, everyone heads for the sunset at Oia where there are breathtaking views of the sunsetting over the caldera.

The resorts on the south of the island are less busy, Kamari and Perissa, Perissa has the better beach, black volcanic sand, so if you're not bothered about the sunset and island tours you'll be fine there.

Our favourite thing is finding a nice restaurant tucked out of the way where we can sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a nice bottle of red...???

I echo the comments about Santorini and the cruise ships. We stopped there and it was absolutely rammed, couldn't wait to get out of the place! And the cafes are a rip off, if you sit anywhere with a view you have to order food. we just wanted a cold drink and they shoved us right in the very back of the place out of the way.

Sakala Kefalonia, lovely but I would have a car for a few days to go up north to Fiskardo to see the super yatchs

If you want a really quiet break, go to Santorini .......................... and send your wife to Kefalonia.

We visited Kos a few years ago and enjoyed it, but just fancied somewhere else for a change

had a week in santorini 20 years ago, whilst the main visitor attractions are the semi-active volcanic crater and the clifftop blue/white picturebook villages on the west side, we stayed at Perissa which is on the east side and it was fine for a week, pleasant countryside between towns. Beaches were volcanic brown sand rather than white sand but there were plenty beachside eateries and with a short wander bars/clubs to enjoy later.
Would not be one to go back to imo, once was fine.
£150 ea for the week was a steal - took it at 2 days notice.
Kefalonia is one we've looked at but haven't managed yet.

Went to kefalonia. Beware.... Our accomodation was nice but at the top of a 10 minute, longer at night hic, windy road. A holiday I'll NEVER FORGET ?

We did Santorini for our 10th anniversary, lovely place but in my opinion very over hyped. We went for a week but truth be told a long weekend is enough.

We stayed Santo Mira Mare (perivolos) which was a lovely hotel just up from the quiet Perissa beach which is more traditional and less commercialised. Nice chilled pool area, 15 min waddle down to perissa in the evening with a wide choice of restaurants without being pestered like the old town and other neighbouring towns.

Be warned flying into santorini can be unpredictable due to the way the wind hits the runway. We went in May and got recovered to Crete and was held on the runway for 6-8 hours. Apparently if they served any drinks while landed they would have been hit with taxes so we were just given cups of water.

On the way back we were delayed almost 24hr-36hr’s and was put up in a very basic B&b. Apparently as the wind rolls down the mountains it’s known to flip planes which is where the delays in and out come from.

I’d recommend hiring a car if you go so you can hit all the towns and take the misses to the north of the island to watch the sun set. You can do all towns by car in a day so plan it out.

I’d go back but ideally as part of a cruise where you’re only there for 24-48hrs

I cant speak for Santorini, but i've been to Kefalonia twice and really enjoyed it both times. last time stayed on the East coast in Agia Efiimia which was smaller than some of the more touristy areas towards the South of the island. We enjoyed the north of the island and Fiskardo and Asos were highlights. Plenty of places to find a quiet taverna, order some seafood and a cold Mythos and watch the world go by...

Only been to Kefalonia of the two . Been three times and loved it every time. Would suggest Agia Effimia - quiet enough with a good selection of restaurants. But located well enough to explore most of the island if you choose.
