Hi all, I recently bought a used set of Taylormade m2 irons, 5i-AW, all with regular flex steel shafts, love them! I’ve been looking for a sw to go with them for about a month now but can’t find an exact match (in terms of shaft) for love nor money!

Getting desperate now as I struggled to get out of bunkers yesterday (used a 60 wedge I’ve got in my bag).

All I can find is either a stiff steel shaft or a graphite regular flex shaft.

Any thoughts on which would be the easiest to adjust to?

And, if I struggle, is it fairly simple for a pro to replace a shaft?

Don't worry about the shaft flex of such a specialist club - especially if it's 'close' to that of the rest of the set.

Many/most wedges have S200 shafts in (labelled as 'Wedge'). There aren't many S200 shafts in full sets!

Replacing a wedge shaft with one 'matching' the rest of the set is an expensive waste of time!

If you are struggling with a 60 degree wedge in bunkers providing it has reasonable bounce it's probably technique rather than equipment and something labelled SW won't necessarily be any easier.

Interesting, so you’re thinking the stiff won’t be much different?

I’ve never had a problem getting out of bunkers previously, I’m usually pretty confident when I’m in them around the green. Might’ve been a one off but my 60 doesn’t have as much bounce as a sand wedge, plus the extra loft... definitely need a sw anyway.

I agree with Foxholer. Wedges and a SW in particular is a specialist club and most come with different shafts. As a rule a wedge isn't hit flat out so you won't really notice the difference and I'd suggest getting one you like the look at and work on bunker technique and how far you hit it on approach shots

Correct.

Btw. bunker play at our level is as much in the head as anything else. I've used a low bounce 60* in the past. I now use a 12* Bounce 56 Sure Out after returning from a forced break and having problems getting out! No idea what flex shaft and don't care!

It is fairly simple to change a shaft but I would agree a lot with Foxholers comments with one slight comment

I assume you have the Taylor Made Reax 88 shaft in the irons and this is a high launch shaft. What is fitted in 'specialist' wedges such as Vokey is a low launch shaft.

This is only important if you want the SW for full out shots but not particularly relevant for bunker shots and short pitches and chips.
