I managed to keep the same ball for the whole round yesterday, never managed that in the 3 years I have been playing! I'm a high h'capper (26) & put it down to leaving my driver in the bag all day. Scored 32 points round a course i havent played before, playing it again on Saturday, so I might adopt the same philosophy. What do you guys reckon?

my driver constant gets me in trouble, on tuesday i ended up hitting a rescue for safety.

its a nice feeling finishing a round with a same ball you started with, i almost finished tuesday round with sundays ball, lost it on the bloody 18th, typical,.

High h/c + driver left in bag = better scores. Use a 3 wood. Simples.

Theres truth in that. As a junior aged 16 i never used a dirver, was 3w all the way and i got down to 12 at the time. New drivers are alot more forgiving tho, they were the days of big berta's and hippo's with red shafts.

I don't know why some people even bother playing golf.

Wouldn't it make more sense to improve with the driver then give up on it altogether?

Or maybe even more sense to ingrain a good swing with an easy (er) to use club before trying to smash it with a driver?

I have used a 3 wood all season & it is now good for 220 yds measured, ok not as far as your driver but I hit more fairways than my friends of equal experience with their drivers.

At the end of the day its about getting it round. If that means not hitting driver through fear, bad technique etc but a 3 wood or even a hybrid suffices and you can play to your handicap then surely it makes sense. I do agree that the modern driver is a lot more forgiving and personally even when my swing is in the darkest depths I'll still use it on some holes at my club
