Ryder Cup

They were the obvious charges. Bigger concern is Kaymer's form and his mindset after trying to avoid selection!

If there was a time to have had 4 wildcards would this have been it?

I prefer 4 wild card picks personally, golf is very much a form sport, let the top consistent players earn their spots then pick 4 form players nearer the time.

Simple!

The picks were imo the correct ones for the teams chances at victory.

Also can't see how Kaymer avoided to try and qualify! He was in the automatic spots and knew his chances of being knock out of that were minimal, so stuck to his tournament schedule thats been laid out all year.

What I do agree with though, is he is currently the weak link with his form this year. He will need to buck his ideas up or face minimal playing time in the event itself.

Monty had the picks increased and Jose decided to decrease them back to 2 wild cards for the Ryder Cup so it was what Jose wanted.

The picks are fine, reckon Kaymer may only play 4 balls with a really strong partner and maybe just the once and the singles so chance he may only lose 1 point at best.

I think this world list/european list mixture is a bit of a problem. You could have a player who narrowly misses each and fails to get in but a player like Kaymer who hasn't done much lately hangs on because of his world ranking, based in part on rather distant events.

I would do it purely with one list, plus 2 or 3 picks, based on world ranking points from the start of the qualifying period (sometime around the Crans event, I think) and let the points erode with time as they do in the OWGR and that would take care of the problem of giving too much weight to distant events.

Both teams should have the same number of picks and announce wildcards at the same time. DLIII can make his picks knowing the exact lineup for Europe. Ollie couldn't do that. Let the points erode with time as they do in the OWGR and that would take care of the problem of giving too much weight to distant events.

A good point! Kaymer is not a bad golfer however and he may not turn out to be the worst player on either team! With golf you never know until the event.

Actually knowing this sport he will probably now win a bucket full of RC points for EU and maybe even win his singles match!

I hope nerves dont get to Colsaerts, understandable if it does, he's been a pro for 14 years and even 3 years ago was ranked 1,305 in the world.

Now he's 35th, wonder what he changed in his 12th year or is golf just that fickle!

I hear that stat last night to on Sky Sports. By all accounts in his younger days he had all the talent but chose to enjoy the life that went with travelling, beer, clubbing, women etc. Then decided best settle and play this game i'm good at.

As an aside, went onto the Ryder Cup website few minutes ago. Talk about cash cow, 1 x Sleeve of 3 Pro-v1 with team europe crest £18.00. Plain blue fleece with logo £120, or how about a leatherette holdall for £70.
