Ryder Cup 2025

There is a little bit of irony in that statement. He played most of his golf in the US so his loyalty to the European tour is not overwhelming and certainly not at the same level as say a Thomas Bjorn for example. Not sure his credentials on that front are too different from many of those now excluded.

I was going more along the lines of stepped in and did the job after Stenson as I would be hard pushed to believe that LIV would not have gone for another point scoring exercise by offering Donald a cheque.

That said, Poulter, Westwood, Garcia etc have been too confrontational. You would suspect that if they had stayed in the background with LIV they could have slipped back in as captains but they have been too vocal.

Wouldn't disagree. They burned a few too many bridges unfortunately. Had they just kept quiet..........

Eligibility etc. aside I genuinely think that Poulter has an opportunity to be the worst ever Ryder cap captain. I think he'd give Hal Sutton a good challenge for top spot.
Nothing I've ever seen or heard from Poulter suggests he cares about anyone other than himself. I think he'd manage the European team like Tom Watson managed the US but without any of the goodwill and legacy Watson had available to shred.
I didn’t like Poulter before he went to LiV and nothing I have heard from him since has changed that. I agree that I think he would make a terrible captain.

After the last Ryder Cup it seemed like Luke got plaudits from just about every member of the team for the way he ran everything so well, with lots of hopes that he would be asked to stay on for the USA trip - looks like the players have got their wish, and every credit to him for taking the task on. :)

I'm happy that Luke has got it again, no reason why he shouldn't be given the away tie as well and if we do lose, I don't think it taints this years efforts as we all know how hard it is to win away.

He only half the time that everyone else had so it's right and proper.....
Hopefully the bulk of the team - front and backroom - will be similar..
That is fair comment, had not considered this tbf, I think there's so many players (even with the LIV exodus) who should get a crack that the days of repeat captains like Jacklin should be consigned to history, but yes Luke barely got a year, so give him the full term this time.

Luke a fantastic choice and deciding this early gives continuity and our best chance. Keep the backroom staff the same, maybe another VC who can get on the captaincy roster.

I like the long term path Europe are on, especially with their captains.
