Anyone seen him playing today? Apart from him being up with the leaders and having a very odd swing,WHAT A SCRUFF!! He wouldnt get on many courses dressed like that if he wasn't a pro!! Rant over!!

Really?? Then he is also an oddball! Unless they are right at the top you would think a pro would try and make as much cash for his and his familys future whilst still able to,of course the money might not bother him.

I like him.

Apparently, after a period of bad form he decided to go back to how it was in his amateur days to try and get the hunger back - he declined all sponsor offers, buys his own gear, etc.

"Earlier Friday we posted a story about Ryan Moore and his interesting outfits. The guy has pimped a headband during a round, a pink V-neck sweater in the desert and Puma shoes (the kind you and I would wear to the bar) affixed with golf spikes.

His golf bag has no name brands, his hat, with the short bill, has no Ping or Oakley written on the front. His clubs aren't the newest, cutting-edge brand; he has an assortment of Titleist wedges and a Titleist putter, Callaway irons, Ping three-woods, and an Adams hybrid and driver.

Yet at six-under through two days at the FBR Open, Moore is near the top of the leaderboard, and he is doing it because, according to him, he just wanted to get back to playing golf. That's right: Moore has decided to forgo the millions in sponsorships for one of the most heralded amateur golfers of all time in order to just play the game he loves.

"To be honest, I kind of did a lot of thinking in this offseason and I wanted to go back to playing golf because I loved playing golf again. It had nothing to do with not even wanting sponsorships or if there wasn't availability there. I just used to love playing golf, I used to love going out to the course everyday and some of that stuff can kind of get in the way. This year, I wanted my focus to be golf, and golf only and just not even worry about that other stuff.

"Good golf takes cares of itself," Moore said after his four-under 67 today.

Obviously the problem with this is that Moore isn't making any money from all of the sponsors that would be excited to have a young, exciting golfer on their staff. But what's the benefit? It's that Moore gets to pick his own clubs, his own wardrobe and, most importantly, he gets to be comfortable in just being himself through it all.

"I pick a club because I want to play, not because I have to make it work. To me, there is a lot of comfort and a lot of confidence in that," Moore said. "Everything you see me wearing, I paid for."

While it might seem asinine to some that a young golfer wouldn't cash in at a time like this, more golfers (if not people) need to do this. Instead of pimping any product that comes along, or go with a company that doesn't necessarily define who you are, Moore is just being himself. And so far, it appears to be paying off. At the Bob Hope last week, Moore missed the cut because of one bad round, but he said he felt good and is back in the mix this week.

After great success as an amateur before turning pro, Moore has struggled to break through to the winner's circle of the PGA Tour. Maybe this free-willed approach could help him do that, even if he has to catch some hell from his fellow golfers. (Gary McCord said last night on The Golf Channel that Moore looked like a mix between Ellen DeGeneres and Justin Timberlake.)

"I get a little bit of grief, definitely, but that ties back in to me wanting to be me and not having to wear this or that, but wear stuff I actually enjoy. I go out and buy my golf clothes. I bought these golf shoes. I paid for them. I figure that I've got a lot from the golf industry, so it doesn't hurt to give back," Moore said.

If you are shocked at that statement, you probably should be. That is a professional athlete, at one of the bigger stages in the early season of his sport, making absolute and utter sense. Oh, and playing pretty darn well."

Absolutely FANTASTIC, well done Ryan, now if you could just point the sponsors in my direction I would be glad to become a walking billboard for massive amounts of cash. Keep it up Ryan golf needs more like you (excuse the pun)

There's something honourable and noble about his take on things even if he does look at times scruffy.

It's just the shoes as far as I can see watching him today that look too casual, look like skateboard shoes with spikes.

Good stuff Ryan.

Has a battling quality about his game as well.

I thought he looked like a tramp that had wandered onto the course in his plimsoles.
He looks like he needs a good bath too, i hope this trend doesn't catch on!!!!

Far from looking like a Tramp.

Are you one of these people who refuses to move on from the plus fours, shirt and tie with tank top brigade. Smokers jacket in the lounge and no mudded trousers!

Golf is a fun sport and people like Moore make it appealing to the younger generations who are put off by Faldo jumpers and tartan troos!!!!
