When i started playing years ago my grandad gave me his set of ping eye 2's and an old looking putter. The metal on the putter was a really dark colour and i just figured that's how it was. Since then i've changed putters a few times but my putting has never been as good as it was. I decided to go back to my original putter and also to give it a bit of a cleanup.

A friend of mine kept telling me it just looked like rust, so eventually i left it in some rust remover over night. I have attached a photo of the result and i think you can clearly see where the putter was and wasn't submerged in rust remover.

Now i'm wondering, is this becu or bronze manganese?

Bronze manganese looks a lot yellower than my putter

But the fact that my putter had rusted to almost black i think shows that it is manganese. Any thoughts?

That is beryllium copper. It corrodes to a lovely dark patina that should be left as is. You can't make becu putters any more as the dust from machining is carcinogenic. Whilst I love the finish, I always found becu putters a bit firm, and he ball pings off the face a bit too lively for me. Each to their own.

I had a becu b60 for a few weeks last year. Loved it from 6 foot in, but couldn't lag it from distance for love or money.
