Before I go any further as per the title this is only a rumour and not my view. If GM feel its inappropriate then just pull it.

I have now heard numerous rumours about big leftie and gambling addictions to the extent that he's almost penniless! Has anyone else heard this or is it just complete poppycock?????

Sad if its true as big leftie always comes across as an absolute gentleman.

It has been common knowledge for years that big lefty likes a punt. He plays practice rounds for pretty decent money and tales of his betting have been going around for at least 15 years, including a skins game at Augusta which led to a $200,000 loss.

Not sure if he is in the John Daly league, though. Daly gambled away tens of millions in Vegas.

Thanks. Wasn't aware of that. Possibly people over egging the pudding perhaps?

Having just had a bit of a Google, it seems that while he likes a punt, he's actually up most of the time.

Also, he's apparently a change man after the birth of his laddie and his wife's illness.

I believe Tiger liked a flutter in Vegas as well. And this is not an inuendo, he really did some very high stakes gambling. Then again I suppose if you have the money and you can control it so it doesn't turn into an addiction, then why not.

And I suppose you can be a gambling addict and a gentlemen. His behaviour at the Ryder Cupo when Rose holed his put means he'll always be a gentleman to me

I remember Tiger's addiction in Vegas was women according to that documentary after his infidelity, they said that he paid one hooker $1m for one night? Oh, well he's just got $1.7m for The Players so ..........

Back to Phil, I've always liked his demeanour but a friend of mine said that he met him at one the tournaments over here a few years ago and he was a complete c**k!! Shame if he has got an addiction, his poor wife has been through enough lately.

Hes always liked a decent punt, common knowledge and he still is an absolute gent regardless! In terms of mega bucks lost and skint I would doubt it. Most of his cash will be managed for him by the management team and accountants. This guy is one of the top three highest paid golfers of all time and his income is more than most medium size company's earn gross so I expect he wasted his weekly pocket money at most rather than touched his overall assets, which will be protected I'm sure. :)

Mick is one of the highest earner in golf. He earnt around $40 million dollars the past financial year and has been on that sort of level for a while now. If he is nearly broke then he has done some serious gambling far more than Daly. Cant see it myself

Not the first time I have heard this about Phil. There was a story going round when he joined Callaway was that they paid off his gambling debts which were rumoured to be several million at the time.
