will read up rules later but thought would ask everyones thoughts. on par 3 put tee shot into bunker. on inspection my ball landed like a fried egg. ball nearly buried in its own crater. but there were swan footprints in bunker (there are swans on the course) now my ball landed on one of there footprints. there was a track of two prints in a row then one its partner was where my ball was. am i entitled to a free drop still the bunker or play it as it is?

This makes me laugh some people will try anything to get a drop,i appreciate you didnt take one however if your ball was half plugged as you say how the hell can you see theres a swan footprint underneath, first of all the crater made would have disintergrated the footprint imo and if not i dont think it was a swan probably bigfoot.

i wasnt trying to get a drop it was a stableford so not that fussed. but just incase for bigger matches etc. now im no sherlock but a swan has two feet so i see two footmarks then another two then ONE then two then two. so unless the swan was playing hop scotch i assume it landed in the other. please note i did play it as it lies without consulting my two playing partners. best laugh was blasting out bunker into the pond quality :D

aye i didnt want to give a long winded explanation for the footprints. when i told my playing partners they were like aye right. but i showed them the footprints. on a slightly sad note a golfer did hit one of the swans recently and it is no longer with us :( pps it wasnt me

Have you seen the size of a swan's foot? You could be playing with a tennis ball and still land your ball inside the perimeter!!
matty you might be right they were small footprints, it may have been a duck or a coot. or a local inbred with web feet :D

there's a lot of ducks, swans etc on my course as it's got a big lake around it and to be fair there's some huge footprints in our bunkers.
I bet when it's wet the fairways will have footprints as deep as dinosours prints!!
I concluded that I could easily feed a family of 20 on the size of some of the wildlife on our course. I didn't feel guilty thinking about mint sauce and thick gravy with one of those birds!!

Last Monday I put a ball (unintentionally) onto a little island. The water around it is crossable to play the shot.

But... there was a very angry looking Goose maybe three foot from the ball.

I didn't fancy my chances so took a penalty drop!!!

So you are armed with the golf club of your choice, and are frightened of taking on a goose. Man the flip up mate.

Or was it a topflite so not worth retrieving?
