We have just been told that we WILL NOT be getting the day of the Royal Wedding off as a bank holiday. Apparently my MD is more powerful than the Queen and the Prime Minister. After giving the shower of ***** 5 years of loyal service they go and stiff us for one poxy day.

I am guessing the public sector will be off. Is anyone else being forced to work?

I work for a big company that makes car parts and when our holidays went up for the diffrent sections in the company it said the royal wedding bank holiday is not deffinite as they have to meet customer demands and that the date may be changed!?

So do you get paid extra for working the bank holiday or is it just your normal rate?

I have been told my contract of employment entitles me to 20 days holiday and 5 statutory and because there is no mention of extraordinary holidays we are stuffed.

Do you work full time? Because if you do your entitled to 28 days holiday.

Yes, but if he gets paid for Bank Holidays, of which there are 8 in the UK, then they can count towards his 28 days.

working for the NHS, we have to work on this date.. I am also supposed to be off for the whole of Easter, but due to the doctors surgeries being closed over this time, my shifts will be changed to accomodate their life of luxury..

Actually there is some debate in our NHS Trust as to whether they are going to give it as a holiday and it is by no means set in stone

My OH will be working, but as she is IT support for a certain police force in the vicinity of proceedings, then she is probably required.

I don't know about myself for definate yet - my thoughts are that I will class it as a bank holiday and grace the golf course. That way if anyone does call up with a problem I can sort it, but they will be paying double-time for the pleasure. That usually puts people off enough... :D

Bit like where i work, i work through an agencey for the company and we get shafted with our holidays. We get 28 days but the company is always shut on bank holidays and we have no choice in if we want use a days holiday and get paid or just have it unpaid, so we loose 8 days holiday straight away. Then certain lines shut down for the factory fortnight and you have to have holidays to cover that, so theres another 10 days gone. Then you normally need around 7 days to cover over christmas. So it only leaves you 3 days holiday for the rest of the year!

Luckily the paint line where i work on only stops running for a week over factory fortnight and you can still go in and work on the clean down that week so i can save my holidays for another time in the year.

I thought if a day has been declared a Bank Holiday, no company can actually force you to work, unless you are in emergency services or other such type of job?
