Just back from a very enjoyable day with some of the guys from the forum plus Mike Harris, Neil Tappin and Paul O'Hagan from GM. There was bacon rolls and coffee before play and goodie bags for everyone. After a welcome from the RA vice-captain the day started in misty conditions with MikeH hitting the first shot.

The course was set up perfectly and in really good knick especially the greens which included some real tricky pin placements. Everyone had their picture taken on the first and on the way round.

I hope everyone enjoyed it and found out what a challenge the course is especially the par 3's. There were the ususal great shots and the odd disaster. I managed to hit the ball 5 times on the par 3 6th and still scored 3.

In the end, GM plundered most of the prizes (and then generously gave them back). Neil Tappin (GM) actually had the best score (39 off 5!!) and won nearest the pin (which he kept). Mike H won longest drive with a booming 265 yards verified on 3 separate SC machines. He relinquished the prize which went to Tony Monk (harrymonk).

The top three was pretty close especially between 2nd and 3rd and was decided by count back. Both Alison Bacon (AliB) and Robert Smith (smiffy) tied on 33 points but smiffy just edged it with 17 points on the back 9. The winner was Chris Kissane (murphthemog) who playe dfantastically all day and scored 35 points. Royal Ascot also put up a prize for the best cumulative score on the par 3's which I won with 11 points along with Neil Tappin but we gave the prize up and it was shared by Royal Ascot member Rob Soutar and Hywel Lloyd (HTL).

The weather for the back 9 was glorious warm sunshine which made the course look a picture. The day was rounded off with a decent roast beef and yorkshire pudding and apple pie & custard meal.

All in all it was a great success. I hope this will be a regular fixture in the diary for the first week of April next year so if you fancy a good day out with fellow forummers make sure to book. Thank you for everyone who came for making it a great day and here's to next year.

Here, here. A great day only tarnished by the fact that Mike won the longest drive (trust me when I say I won't hear the end of it).

Well done Homer, superb organisation!

Quite Chris!
Have been at home today working on a piece about left-handed golfers for our June issue, and it would seem my computer has picked up some sort of virus because I'm sure it said somewhere in Homer's write-up that the editor had won the longest drive.
Please can someone tell me whether everyone else happened to miss the fairway on this hole? If not, I may need to get on to McAfee straightaway to upgrade my security.
Sounds like a good day - can anyone tell me what the assembled GM representatives scored on the 1st hole as I had a bet with them that they wouldn't better 11 between them (all bets off if the 220 or so back tees weren't in operation)

Tappers,
Your memory re the financial agreement seems to have been affected by Weds night's alcohol consumption. It was a fiver, and even then only if the hole was playing 220?

Great day with good company, happy days.

Bit disappointed I finished just outside the prizes with 33 points, 19 on the front 9 + 14 on back 9.

What most hacked me off is being done my Murph twice in 7 days. By 2 points! Much to his enjoyment (revenge will be sweet)

Also bent the shaft of my 60* wedge knocking the sand off my shoes after an unscheduled stop in a bunker. So off to the toy shop tomorrow to pick up a new one.

Bring on the Belfrey.

A really great day, well organised Homer. Was good to meet up with a couple of forumers that I had met before, and also meet some new faces.
The weather was gorgeous, the course was playing superbly and the welcome and the food at the club were first class. Deffo count me in for next year.
It was nice to be hitting the ball half decently again after the crap way I have been playing lately, really chuffed to score 33 points bearing in mind I had 7 x 3 putts and a 4 putt on the 11th (par 3!) plus a blob.
Enjoyed the company of Harry, Chris (Harry's Dad) and Robert Souter (Ascot member). Thanks again Homer, it was a great day.

First and foremost, a big thanks to MarkWarne. I really hope you got that job. I'll sort out how to get the goody bag to you. Which seeing as others have asked, contained 3 new Pro V1s, A GM top 25 instruction DVD, a 2 for 1 voucher and this months mag.

Secondly to Homer. Great to meet you at last. Stunning effort with the organisation. Vice Captain in attendence was a nice touch. Playing off the whites wasn't as bad as I'd thought it would be. Bravo chap!

Thirdly. To GM. Who don't have to support these events the way they do, but their commitment to the forum is why it works so well. I really do have to make The Belfry. Cheers guys.

And last but not least. The guys that had to endure my terrible golf, (I think I was the highest h'capper there). Viscount, Backwoodsman, and Paul OH from GM.

Oh, and congratulations to Murph, who won again!!

Ooopps!

A big thanks to my wife for letting me go at such short notice, even with the week old daughter!

It's just a shame that I didn't get to put faces to all the names that are on here every night. I would have liked to have done.

Great day

HH

In the goodie bag was a copy of this months mag, three Pro V's (new model) and an instrctional DVD. The prizes consisted of :

The winner + a shield
http://www.onlinetrophies.co.uk/products/searchresults.php?searchterm=t9437

2nd and 3rd ref no T8959 and T8957 respectively
http://www.onlinetrophies.co.uk/products...es/products.php

and for longest drive and nearest the pin - a sleeve of Titleis and - ref T9441T9442
http://www.onlinetrophies.co.uk/products...es/products.php

There was also an Ascot cap and sleeve of Titleist balls for lowest score. Also as our par 3's are a stiff proposition off the whites the club also put up a prize for the most accumulated points on the 6 par 3's (which I won with 11 and handed back) which should have been two sleeves of Titleist but as it was a tie the two winners had a sleeve each.
