Since yesterday, after the update fix, I've been unable to access the forum at work. Not via my desktop, not via my phone. I'm managing now by turning off the WiFi connection to my phone. As soon as I did that, it was fine.

Nothing has changed at my end, I'm the computer person at work (small company so I do most things, but it means I know it has not been messed with). No other websites are affected.

I've turned things off and on, cleared cache. It seems there must be an issue with the update and the router, meaning it is getting blocked.

Any suggestions as to how to overcome this?

Could it be the new layout has a different security certificate that your router is reading as dangerous?
Have you tried turning the router off, cutting the power to it and rebooting it?
I would try that but what you describe I have seen on various web sites/forums before.
I have even had it with a gmail email account that after a client did a software update blocked my email from going in and out. They insisted it was me, so I had to get a new email and server.
I wasn't the only one I have found out since.

Sounds very similar to what happened to me about a month ago https://forums.golfmonthly.com/threads/ip-address-not-accepted.118145/

It just started working again after several days, so I don't have a fix for you i'm afraid but hope it comes back soon
