Sky router

Sounds to me like you're getting connected but when it comes to your devices getting out to the Default Gateway it's nothing. Nothing's been changed with regards to NAT rules or anything, there's no DMZ been set or anything? Make sure also there's no been a proxy setting set up on the router. You don't need anything like that.
Edit:

Although I suspect the new router would have ruled all that out if nothings been changed. New router rules out anything in the home being at fault. I reckon it's got something to do with the link outside and to the exchange.

He can ping external websites from the command prompt with no packet loss and also get to the default gateway. So the connection beyond the gateway is there, the issue appears to be wireless connevtivity related.

Ethernet cable did not work either.

Seems like a router config issue to me

Either a firewall setting or traffic shaping

Sky fibre routers are set up different to their ADSL lines so might have misconfigured the router slightly

Sky remote assistance for their internet are pretty good

I haven't a clue what anyone is talking about on this thread :)

I have a Sky router - it got delivered; I switched it on; it works. If I lose internet access I switch it off; unplug the landline connection from it; wait a while; plug landline back in; switch it on - and it works :)

And now having just earlier said the above I can't get my wireless working...

Direct ethernet cable connection - no problemo - wireless - fiddlesticks - typical.
