whilst watch the coverage of rory on saturday knocking his ball 290 yards and landing in a tree. i noticed that he and his caddy hadnt a clue where his ball was when they were looking for it. they were peaking the shrubs and surrounding area and it seemed to me that they didnt think to look in the tree until the sky team had watched a slow motion replay of the ball coming down then pinpointed what looked like the ball in the tree. a few seconds later as if someone had radioed across to them to try above their heads in the tree. low and behold there was the ball.

now i dont know if this is the done thing when playing with video cameras watching or even if it happened at all. what do you think? fair ?

Not fair... he should have lost his ball if he couldn't find it within 5 minutes..... BUT this is the nature of professional golf so using replays for/against you is all the rage and apparently seems to be fine with the R&A who have done nothing about it.

i know it would make my life easier if i could use video footage to pinpoint my errand shots. another thing is that rory will have multiple eyes (cameras) watching his ball while johnny noname will only have a camera where he is hitting and where he should have landed. this gives the top guys an advantage imo.

Is it any different to someone on the course but not anything to do with your game spotting where your ball has ended up and informing you or even, say, a dog walker??

I don't think that's the players fault, why should it be his problem if he's playing well or a high profile player. its the same for penalties, cos johnny no name has no cameras on him so there for could break there rules, intentionally or not and not called for it, thus gaining an advantage on the field.

i agree. i dont think the cameras should play a part at all. the rules are supposed to set down a level field for all players. this is clearly not the case!

it was found within 5 minutes, or it would have been lost ball - this thread is about the method used to find it.
