Rory

Yesterday was a great day to get sky sports back in..... what an evenings golf. Well done Rory.

I imagine the old "Brit" when doing well and "Irish" when struggling theme will be around for years. Dont worry Rory I know your Irish and thats good enough for me. To be sure to be sure... :p

Some of his shot making was better than I ever watched before. I stared watching golf because of Tiger and now have found someone to continue to watch. Hopefully many happy years ahead.

Stunning performance ...... nearly missed the cut on Friday yet shot -16 over Saturday/Sunday ...... that putt on the 18th was fantastic ....... best example of a player who was by his own admission 'in the zone'

Loved the post match interview with David Feherty ..... I don't know who was more pleased Rory or David.

Pure genius is what that was.

What a fabulous looking swing as well. It says a lot about how well he played when the 5 iron shot on 15 to set up eagle doesn't stand out he hit so many great shots.

Lets not forget the putt on 17 nearly dropped for birdie as well.

Be interesting to see if he can kick on from here, here's hoping.

Picked up the coverage as he holed his birdie putt on 14 where they showed the leaderboard. Couldnt believe it so thought id stick around and watch some more. Bloomin glad I did , what a finish. Superb golf , even Big Phil was putting in some charge and had 4/5 birdies coming home and was left for dead.

Did you see that stat where in all the years theyve played there the first 15 holes have been played in 41 under par and the last 3 have been played in over 3500 over par

Well done Rory lets hope this is the real kick start for a long and successful career

My mate and I were discussing him on Saturday morning and we both said that maybe 1 more year of him ripping it up solely in Europe may be the way for him to go and playing more in the States may see him lose his way....

What the hell do we know about golf then eh??!! :o

Superb stuff, hope he kicks on and gets the No.1 spot...he is great to watch,no technical stuff just swings it the way he has since he got out of his pram. :)

One word . . . .AWESOME. Tremendous golf shots all the way round. That 350+ drive and the 200+ 5 iron uphill to 3 ft for eagle was phenominal. I jumped out of my seat !!!! Hopefully he will kick on and win a major. I think St Andrews is his best bet.

However . . . .I still think he needs to sharpen his short game to win one. He got up and down from a bunker on the short par 4, other than that he didnt have to play so many chips / pitches as his ball striking was simply out of this world. When is ball striking is slightly off he still needs a better short game to fall back on.

Can't believe all these people assuming he's guaranteed #1 spot in the whole golfing world.

He's definitely got the potential, but there's been others before with as much and haven't made it....

Hope he does fulfill the talent that he's got, but there's a lot of work still to be done!

We have seen the future he is young irish and will become world number one before his 23rd birthday - good bye Phil Goodnight Tiger, Rory is here

A little premature this I think. Rory has huge potential but IMO, Tiger is gonna be no.1 for many years to come. I hope Rory steps up from here and wins a major soon but he and everyone else have a long way to go to topple Tiger

I have to say, his swing looked absolutely superb - perhaps one of the best I've seen for a while (apart from Smiffy's round The Addington...).

Great final round - a proper destruction of a golf course.

Of the back of last night's play, he's certainly got the potential to be the #1. I'm not too sure how quickly he'll achieve it though.

He looks in great shape for a major though - I just hope his form lasts. His swing looks like it should.

The most impressive thing about last nights round was how he kept it going over the last 5 holes. Not a single element of 'clinging on' to his score or the win, which we see so often in a load of events (and in other sports too)

If Phil wins TPC next week and Tiger finises outside the top 10, Phil will be world no 1

I watched it last night in a drunken haze and was completely transfixed. It was some of the best golf I have ever seen from the young brit! :) Totally awesome. To smash a course record by 2 in a final round of a big event is great stuff. I think he could win a major, maybe even the open this year, so long as he doesnt change his style of play. We discussed him yesterday after jimmy bruen qualifying and one of the fellas said he thought it was a mistake that rors went to see rotella.....maybe not.....

I certainly think Rory is capable of reaching No.1, as to when, who knows?

I remember watching him at Wentworth last year - it was on the 2nd par 3, I was one of the many stood around the green watching him putt out and remember thinking - how does this 19 year old lad handle this cauldron of pressure. You could hear a pin drop, and he just went about his business like he'd been doing it for years!

It was obvious to me that he clearly has the mental attributes to handle the pressure situation, so it's just whether his golf can remain at a consistent high level that he needs to reach No.1.
I really do hope so - he's a joy to watch.

Golfmmad.

Maybe so but it will be temporary IMHO. Tiger will be back on top once he clears his head I reckon.

Watched the highlights again tonight. Recorded it so I can watch his swing over and over.

I was delighted to see Irishman Harrington be the first European to win a major for ages and I predict McIlroy will be the next British player to win a major, even though hes really Irish. ;)

I really enjoy watching the English players like Westwood, Poulter etc but think Rory will pip them to a major and become no 1 in the world before hes 25. That gives him 4 years to do it, the same time frame I set to get to single figures.

Fancy his chances a bit more than mine the Im playing.
