Rory to use Callaway

What surprised me most in the article was him saying that he couldn't use the prov1x with his Nike irons because they spun the ball too much.

I wouldn't even have thought about different groove patterns spinning different balls different amounts.
Mind you, if he's swinging a 7 iron at 95mph it's not something I need to worry about.

Rory will have tested the clubs and ball of preference over and over to get it exactly as he wants. Let's be honest Callaway don't make bad gear so it's hardly a leap of faith for him in the same way as Ko's move might be

I guess if you are out of contract and able to choose from all the gear out there - you have to trust that he has made the right choice for him at this point. He doesn't exactly need the sponsorship money so hopefully has made up a bag that looks and performs to his preference and sits right from a feel perspective.

Wasn't it said at the time that the hardest change for him when he moved to Nike was finding the right ball?

Looking at the pictures of irons in Rorys bag and they are not Callaway, I would guess at a raw Mizuno Mp 69 stamped as Callaway Apex but definitely not Callaway.

So Rory was telling lies when he was quoted telling people what was in his bag???

Prototype mb callaways
Is what the man said
No reason to disbelieve

It'll be a prototype iron. Not a chance Callaway would ever use another manufacturers irons and "stamp" them.

Cant think of a single reason why Rory would want to use a Callaway branded mizuno iron ... after all he isn't signed to callaway at all so why would they feel the need to do that?

Anyway .... Pictures yesterday showing Patrick Reed using same irons too now.

Actually there is every chance as it is quite likely that the forged heads are outsourced and not produced by Callaway.

That being so what is "stamped" on them can often be irrelevant as the OEM's input may only be the design and if the player states a preference for a design offered by another OEM then that is what will be produced for him.

Ok,

I will rephrase that then. I appreciate and I'm fully aware that you only have a handful of forging houses that make "blanks" for manufacturers to utilise.

What I was saying was Callaway are hardly going to go to Mizuno and take a head and have it re-stamped with their branding.
