Rory taking a break from golf to fight court case

Hes suing them for 7 million Euros, does he really need the hassle over that?

I know its a huge amount of money to us on here but to him? Is it worth it?

Absolutely worth it regardless, I don't know the depth of this but if Rory feels strong enough to take this all the way then something is amiss somewhere and if agents are filling their pockets with his money then he should take it all the way, it's not greed on his part as it's his money.

Obviously that is assuming reading is correct that Horizon have taken more than they are due.

So who has done what and who is right and wrong then? Did Horizon broker the Nike deal? Is that what this is about?

Sure he doesn't need the money but if he's been getting mugged off he's absolutely right to carry on.

I have no idea about what's gone on though!!

The golfer claims a representation agreement signed by him almost three years ago is invalid and unenforceable on a number of grounds.

He said he signed it when he was just 22. He said he was inexperienced and did not have independent legal advice.

Blimey. I hope he's got more in the legal locker than this.

if that's his defence then I would suggest its a waste of time!

I would suggest that there is a bit more to it than this given its now at court. Any lawyer worth his salt wouldn't contest that if thats it.

knowing they will probably fail has never stopped a lawyer especially in a high profile case where the defendant has deep pockets.

Based on the above Rory is coming across as a spoilt brat not taking responsibility for his own actions. His age and not seeking legal advice has is a crock! if he wins that I'll be getting out of my mortgage, car loan and anything else I've taken out when younger and without legal advice.

Wasn't there something about the percentage they took from GMAC being a considerable amount less than Rory's and he signed on the understanding they were to be treated equally

"The plea for an out-of-court settlement came last month from Mr Justice Brian McGovern after it became apparent that the detailed financial business of another golfer and a close friend of McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, may have to enter the public domain. McDowell has also been a Horizon client, and McIlroy’s lawyers claim their client was on “markedly inferior” terms to his compatriot despite assurances to the contrary.

McIlroy will next play in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai from 20-23 November."

The irony of it is if he forgot about it and focused on his golf he would win around that for winning the RTD

I have spent the last thirty years on international commercial litigation and can confirm that it is always possible to get a lawyer, especially an American lawyer, to take any case to court regardless of the merits. Remember always that half the lawyers that go to court lose the case.

It's not the height of the golfing season and so makes sense to take some time out and make sure his side of the story is as watertight as he can. Not sure it'll actually get to court and I rather hope it doesn't.
