Rocket Balls 3 Wood 17 Yards Longer!!! Or is it???

It's a very good club but TaylorMade have gone over the top on the marketing. The yardage gains can be put down to the large head inspiring confidence and the 0.5 to 1 degree lower loft compared to most normal 3 Woods.
They are 15°, that is standard across nearly all 3 woods nowadays, the odd one is 15.5° and real duffers like the K15 are 16°, but the vast majority are the same as the RBZ.

I was among a group of a half dozen who got a chance to demo these before they were released at a local driving range, we all hit our own 3 woods, and then the RBZ, I was the worst gaining just 8 yds, but everyone saw an improvement, so the hype is for real imo.

That said, I still plumped for a switch to the new i20, more distance from a 3 wood is not what I want, I wanted a better flight (than my G5) better acuracy, and easier to hit off the deck. The i20 is by far the best f/w club I have come across, and I was raving about last year's R11 offerings, so that's quite a compliment from me.

It's all complete tripe! Everyone knows that distance is all about matching the correct shaft to on'es swing characteristics. For every golfer that gains 17 yards with this club there is likely to another that loses 17 yards because it is the wrong shaft for them compared to their correctly fitted club.

Example.....

I had a full fitting for a new set of irons in December. The fitter went right through my bag and informed me that my 'fitted' 3 wood which works very well for me produced a ball speed just 2 mph less than my 'off the shelf' driver.

The short answer is No

For some 1 that can hit a 3 wood well you wont get 17 yards extra, it is a good club youll get maybe 3,4 yards more

I got one from AG in Aintree the other day. I hit a few, i20, razr, g20, rlls and i truly hit the rbz the most consistent. In terms f distance, the r11 s when caught sweetly went a country, as did the i20, but was far too inconsistent with them.

On another note, the store manager said that there was a company meeting at Celtic Manor for all the AG store managers. Each store manager was given a free rbz 3 wood from taylormade. They know how to keep people sweet!

I just bought the RBZ Driver and 3 Fairway today, replacing my R7 equivalents.

I mst say I loved both clubs but the 3 is the star here! Hard to tell how far in reality on a range with ange balls for all the reasons we know. However I was consistently hitting the thing passed the 200 yd marker and getting plenty of carry after that even on soggy ground. This was hitting from the range mats.

Straight as an arrow, good height and nice sound even with taped club face.

I am so impressed I have almost forgotten how good the driver is!

Playing tomorrow morning so will see how good (or not!) it is in the real world

Maybe i should try the RBZ against my Tour Edge 3 wood ?
I've tried many 3 woods over the years and none can match my Tour Edge for out and out distance.Maybe it's just that the shaft and head suit my swing, but i've let others try the Tour Edge and they were surprised at just how long it is.

Well you can only try it! If you buy before you try then it might not be a Tour Edge beater.

Worst yet can happen is the TE3 stays in the bag

My Club shop has just took decent size Taylormade Delivery
And Ive gota say, the RBZ TOUR 14.5deg 3 wood does look VERY NICE
Sits so square, real good looking club
There was supposed to be a Demo day the other day......but alas, snow put paid to that.....!!
I may just have to try it out anyway, but am also tempted by the R11s 4 wood......

I think it all depends on hte golfer. GO try it out for yourself. I do not carry a 3-wood. I prefer to carry my 16degree rescue instead as I hit that more than far enough. Best thing about the RBZ is the name....ROCKETBALLZ! GOlf manafacturers always give their clubs very boring names...Ping, Titleist etc have always used numbers. Taylormade on the other hand try to be a bit different using names like Burner and now the Rocketballz. Callaway have always been good with the names used for their clubs with things like big bertha and now the RAZR HAWK.

So is someone else gonna give their next clubs a funky different anti-establishment name then? I would love to see the Titleist big headed golf ball smasher for the next driver or something equally as stupid.....

I went for 15* as I will no doubt get the 4 rescue which will be 19* I think

The 4 hybrid is 22 degrees, 3 is 19. I can only speak from my own experience, but after my recent GM/AG comp win to be fitted with hybrids i ended up with TM rbz's 3&4 hybrids and was suitably impressed with both the feel and the distance, but hey, they wont suit everybody.

Never tried the hybrids as my wallet was beginning to smoke!

Thanks for the info, when I go back for a hybrid I'll try the 3 and the 4

I just bought the rocketballz 3 hybrid, only tried it at the range but have to say it felt amazing. Bonus that it looks so nice too. Got a tenner off it at AG so made it even sweeter. Can't wait to get on the course with it on Saturday.

First outing for the RBZ driver & 3 today and reinforced my first thoughts that the 3 wood is indeed the star of the show.

Even though it was rather wet I was going long and straight with plenty of carry
