Is it just me or is Robert rock's caddie getting on anyone else's nerves? laying prostate behind him on every hole, surely something can be done about this, it just doesn't seem to be within the spirit of the game to me.

Rock probably cant see the correct line for himself with that stupid hair hanging in front of his eyes. Someone please give him a hair cut!!

Totally agree though, if he isnt capable of lining his own putts up then he shouldnt be on the tour. I think to get round the problem the caddies should be banned from greens, therefore not only will the players have to line their own putts up, but will also have to tend the flag for each other - I would love to see Tiger's grumpy face having to do this :p

That'll speed the game up...not!

Yeah I saw it yesterday and was astounded that a tour pro can't line up putts. Saying that the half dozen I saw him putt he never missed and some were 10-15footers.
I do think it's not within the spirit of the game though.

Déjà vu all over again ....... this topic keeps cropping up every time Bob Boulder is on TV.

Come on R&A get it sorted ............. caddies carry, golfers golf and never the twain shall meet .........

THere has to be some unilateral decision so that the caddies take out the flag and leave the green. It'll stop Rocks caddy farting around and also do the same on the LPGA tour where none of the women seem capable of lining themselves up. Otherwise impose a rule and give them 20 seconds per putt so they can do what we do and miss from 2 feet. :D

I think you mean prostrate, the prostate is a male organ just in front of the ***/rectum but I can see the similarities. ;)

oop's yep, :o

Why don't they simply say no-one is allowed to be on the line of the put when the player takes their stance rather than when making their stroke?

aye its pretty bad on the lpga, but only seen rocks caddy on the mens tour, think its a disgrace really, as a pro he should be able to blummin line himself up!!

I'm sure RR is perfectly able to line up his putts himself.
But if the rules allow it and he feels it may give him an edge, why not?
After all, Faldo's caddy did it for years. The only difference was she didn't lie down to do it.

Although its allowed to me its against the spirit of the game, surely lineing yourself up is part of the skill set a touring pro should have.

And yes it wound me up as well so much so that I was willing him to try and play that shot on the last

I would be pretty pissed off if someone brought along a putting guru to line them up while playing me. In fact I would probably tell them to bugger off.. There should be no outside influences and I include GPS and laser scope length measuring thingies.

Interesting article with RR in National Club Golfer this month and covers this subject. Jamie Lane is his caddie who is a pro as well. RR states "a couple of seasons ago we got together and I let him start reading them and is opinion was generally a lot different from me and his view tends to be a lot clearer. I have a general look but he gets the fine detail and things have really improved."

Don't understand the basis for some of the arguments above as if a caddie is there to carry the bag only then surely that would mean no yardages should be given, no clubbing help, no chat about wind direction etc etc. If it gives the guy extra confidence and an edge then fair enough, for all the time it takes compared to RR doing it himself it won't make much difference. The cause of the slow play is not the lining up process or the discussions about what shot to play next it is the fact that despite them thinking about the next shot they are going to hit, they only start to discuss this after the other player(s) have hit. My two cents worth anyway.

I remember robert rocks caddy at the irish open last year in the sopping wet weather, he was there lying on the ground saying out every small tiny piece of detail about the putt :D
