Hi all
a quick update before I head off to do battle with TonyN and VIG at Hoylake
trip going well and have to say not feeling to tired! A day off the pop helped and I slept like a log in the every comfy bed at Formby Hall last night.
When I last posted was off to play Dundonald.
Very funky pin positions and a genral lack of concentration saw me to the turn in 6 (count em) points. Putted off several greens, putted into bunkers and generally had a shocker. Had a large word with myself at the turn and came back in a semi-respectable 15 for a total of 31. It was tough out there (32 winning score) but not as bd as I made it!
Sunday night spent in a hotel in Ayr. Pre-dinner whisky tasting caper with nice folks from Visit Scotland was probably not what was needed, but when in Rome and all that. Retired at 1am as one of the first to call it a night
Monday at Turnberry - incredible summer weather and an immaculate course - the greens in particular were awesome. Kicked off with a birdie and shot a pleasing 33 points. Could have been much much better as missed 5 birdie putts from inside 10ft and had a 7 at the 11th. Lost on a countback
Great dinner hosted by the R&A in the evening in the Tappie Toorie room for those who know the place that allowed us to see an incredible sunset. Lets hope it's like that in July!
Tuesday - R&A press conference. Very interesting. Mainly detailing course changes of which more in GM soon. Also assured the hotel will be ready, that traffic will be fine and that Troon hasn't been put on standby to host if things don't hit deadline. Also a great intitative from the R&A helping clubs put on coaches to take you from your home club (Scotland and N of England) to the Open. If you can get 30 golfers together they will pay 250 towards the coach hire. Clubs are being written to this week so stay posted
Tuesday PM rain cleared and had a great game at Prestwick - wow what a course! Played quite well and despite two 7s had 34 points. 4 birdies including back to back at 13 and 14 were most welcome
Drove back to Liverpool after. Well to be more accurate the Range Rover Sport did - very tired so the adaptive cruise control came into its own and the great sound system keept me awake got me back at about 10.30 pm
Posted more pics on http://twitter.com/GolfMonthly including one of me and the Claret Jug which I think would look very nice on my mantlepiece at home!
Will let you know how the big match goes later
