Ricky Fowler at US Open !

I haven't seen anyone "have anything against Fowler" I'm sure he's a perfect gent and my OP was just about what get was wearing and whether forum members would wear such a get up. No one has criticised Fowler from what I've read but I personally think that, like Payne Stewart he looks a right dick in that gear but if he want to dress like it he's free to do so as is Poulter

So you say he looks a right dick in that gear...I guess that isn't critisism then eh?..

He has every right in the world to dress as he wants, I think he looked a dick but I have stated right through the thread that it's his prerogative how and why he dresses as he does, so no, it isn't criticism in the way you interpret things, and to insult Poulter the way you have is outrageous

This could go on Chrisd..Soz for offending(ha ha) you and Poults..If that is what i have done, absoluteley outrageous..night night.

For all those that have knocked Ricky about what he is wearing...How many of you wear the loud pants, bright orange dustbin man pants, or any of the other stuff Puma throw out..Live and let live, he is good for the game and a better person than our own Poulter, who also wears (and endorses), a lot of crappy golf wear!!!!:blah:

Better person than Poulter ? Do you know either of them personally to judge them ?

I already asked what it was based on, his response is in post #73. Let me know if you can work out what it means.

Sorry can't work it out

It appears he is saying Fowler is a better person than Poulter because some of us wear bad clothes and also have "all the gear but no idea" ?!

If plus fours wasn't actually as expensive, if no doubt have a couple of pairs just to funk it up a bit.

The royal, and awesome / load mouth stuff seems over priced. And The stromberg stuff seems too boaring.

Yep, I think your going to have to conclude that this is down to you and your, perhaps dislike of Ricky, your just not going to be happy whatever on this subject but at no point have made it clear why it falls flat or why you don't like it or how one would distinguish between copying and a tribute... It seems a lot like you would like things to be much more muted and a lot more British... Just relax, its pretty simple, the guy wanted to pay respect to a pretty special player and person at a spot on location and time.

If you're paying tribute to someone who has passed away, I prefer it to be done respectfully. Not by saying

Look at me!!! Look at my silly gear!!! Look at me!! Look at my silly hat!!! You can get it all at Pumagolf.com!!! I'll bring back the silly haircut too!! It's all Puma stuff!! Look at the big cat!!! Buy some!!

I'm exaggerating, but it was all a bit attention seeking, sponsor prominent for my taste.

He paid tribute by wearing an outfit his idol would wear

He has explained his motives but appears people can't do anything right when even a simple gesture is questioned

But people are entitled to question motives are they not?

I think it's fair to say that Fowler is trying to build himself as a brand by attracting as much attention to himself as he can. Similar to how Poulter is. He has his trademark outfits, his trademark flat bill caps, trademark loud shoes, even a trademark haircut for a while. Nothing wrong in that, though I'll admit in my opinion both guys would do well to maybe win a few more golf tournaments?

I just had an uneasy feeling that his tribute also handily served his own attention grabbing brand building exercise. I'll concede that wasn't his intention, but it didn't sit all that well with me.

Fowler is putting his spin on Stewart's style with the bright colours.

I personally prefer Fowler to Poulter, any time I've seen Fowler interviewed he comes across very well, very respectful, he's not one to act the diva on the course.

Compare that to Poulter who seems to be from what I've seen anyway very arrogant, brash and just not a nice guy, I personally don't buy into the 'us against the yanks' thing thing as well that so many people love, which I also think endears people to Poulter

EDIT: Also if you wanna slander people for promoting their brand Poulter is one of the worst (most prominent) for it, mentions IJP Design at every turn

My, there are some fuddy duddies on here! I've just seen his outfit, I think he looks awesome! I wish more people would make the effort, it's a great golfing look. I have a pair of plus 2's and would definitely have more. Well done Fowler I say.

Butch has said that Fowler got a message from the Stewart family thanking him for his wonderful tribute to Payne
