Iv just recently changed my Irons but i was in a golf shop the other day and i picked up a shaft with a midsize grip on it....I hit a few balls on the monitor and it felt really nice.
My own clubs have standard grips but i was thinking of putting a couple of raps of tape under the grips and bring them up to midsize on maybe the 6 iron and a short iron and see how i play with them.....I work with my hands so i wouldnt say that i have soft hands when holding a club....

Is it possible to be able to get your own grips off without damaging them so they can be reused....

IF your club has an air hose (for shoe cleaning etc) stick that in the hole at the top, get someone else to hold the head steady then twist it off. You should get the grip rising well off the shaft when you do this, don't stand there twisting if nothing looks different as it'll be a waste of time.

No no no! You'll split or burst your grips doing that. You'll need to use turps or white spirit, grip solvent etc. Give the clubs to your PGA pro who should easily be able to "blow" them off. You just fill the shaft full of the above until it starts to work its way down the grip loosening the grip then it slides off.

There is no guarantee that the grip wont split though!

Yes.
The easiest way is to pump white spirit into the grip end until it fills up and breaks the seal under the grip.
Unfortunately, the pump is over £60.
Take your clubs to your pro and he will do it in minutes.
In all the years I've done this I've never had a grip split :)

I've never split one and one of the pro at our place does it alot and I've never seen him do it. Although there are occasions where it doesn't work for some reason but the grip is still ok.
Lot less mess and time.

Mind you, I've never seen it done on multi compound grips or some of the soft spongey ones. Might not work to clever with those.

The multi compounds might be ok.

really glad this had been posted, My old TM Supersteel irons had large grips, and really suited my hands, the new burners i have seem to have a really slim grip, looks like their all of to the pro for grip packing.

Thanks chaps im working in a garage so an airline compressor and a blow gun are not a million miles away from me if thats faster.....Ill test it on one and see how i get on. ;)

I wonder how many grips were ripped apart while learning that technique.

Im jumping the gun slightly so Bob am i? Excuse the punn :D :D

Ill do the white spirit first and see how that goes.

I have blown a few off with an airline. Last one was a bit reluctant, and mutated a bit. It recovered ok, but I guess it wasn't far from bursting. Go easy.
