Resizing photo's

I have been trying to resize some photo's and altering the dpi from 72 to 300 in two different photo programs.

They both let me do the resize and save "save as" but when I bring them back into the programme the have reverted back to the original size and 72dpi

Any thoughts?

Hi Region - yes, the picture changes and will apparently saves at the new size and resolution but has reverted when I bring it back.

Have you tried Photoshop? The best out there.
