RESIN DRIVEWAYS/HARD STANDING

I'm looking at renewing my hard standing in front of my house. Its currently block paved, but a bit of a mess, and someone suggested doing a resin driveway. So, I'm interested in any opinions, good or bad, on the idea

Can’t help on resin surfaces. There is a chap down my road who deals in resin floors for pubs and such, and he resin covered his concrete hard standing. I can’t say it’s worn that well compared to tarmac.
How about looking at imprinted concrete?

Don't have resin but looked into it for the back garden. The consensus was that it is like an ice rink when wet and especially so in cold weather.

Chris, if you’re going for resin or imprint, consider the state of your utility services and if you need to replace them for obvious reasons.

Two of my neighbours have got the sandy grit effect resin drives. One for 2 years, the other for 1 year. They are very pleased with them.

BIM - one if the reasons we have to replace it is because we had a water leak between the outside meter and the back of the house where the water fed in.

I have a resin cover on the pathway around my house. It's pretty hard wearing, strong enough to park on (has a concrete base underneath) and easy to maintain and looks good. It can feel slippy in the wet, but they do have a chemical cover that reduces that, and it will depend on the soles of your shoes. I have found that some shoes slip a lot more than others. Having said that, I only tested slipping by pushing my foot across whilst wearing said shoes, none of us have actually slipped or fallen on it. If you walk properly, it shouldn't be an issue. If they install it properly, they'll leave all the access covers available.

I know two guys called Paddy and Mick who apparently do driveways. Not sure where they are based as they tend to move around a bit. But they deal in cash and will even apparently give you a lift to the bank which is nice of them.

I know them, they live in a caravan in my neighbouring field - I'll go and chat with them if their Doberman is chained up 😁

Chris, you can easily restore the block paved drive.

Lift any sections that are uneven, level the area, clean blocks and put them back down again.

Then if needed use a chemical wash, before jet washing and sanding.

You can then seal it afterwards if you want a permanent wet look, it will look great and will save you a few quid.

Restored mine last year due to tree root issues, and I really enjoyed doing it.

Do not forget to check local planning regs before doing it.

A few years back there was clamp down on 'solid state' driveways to help stop all the flooding.

Modern resin bound surfaces are porous. Resin bonded surfaces are not.
