Am not very good at designing these Polls but am hoping this might work well enough though could also apply for the Treasurer, Club Sec & Club President.
Trying to get an idea of how Clubs entice their Members to fulfill the necessary roles?

Our main officials , Captain, President, Lady Capt, Secretary Treasurer get free membership, but the match organisers at least for the ladies section get a nominal £5. so I voted for nothing.

Members Club I'm Chair of Match and Handicap, just coming to the end of my 3 year term and I am probably burnt out with the amount of effort and aggravation

We get nothing in return, not even a parking space where other council members do, which annoys me, the amount of work organising comps, closing comps, arranging prize giving, Trophy Engraving, Honours Board Updates, let alone WHS Handicaps is too much, so I am probably not do another term as its not worth and hassle and I just want to play golf without thinking about stuff whilst doing it.

The worst thing is members thinking its acceptable to ask about their handicap, or an issue with a recent comp whilst I'm on the course

I did the job for about 10 years but I had a very good clerical assistant (lady member). I retired from the job 3 years ago and coincidentally we recruited an Assistant Manager who has gradually and brilliantly taken on the whole job. The committee now only meets 'as and when' (eg individual or annual review).

The results have been a bit of an eye-opener, as I'd assumed that Private Clubs would have given part or full membership to both Comp and H/cap Secs. The work you've listed (150 Comps pa at ours) is typical and very demanding, and some of it leads to further contentious disagreements/discussions to resolve—or not!!
I'd be interested to know if you have folk waiting in-the-wings to take over as there is a lot to learn about the roles...... by 3 years you'd be well skilled so quite a loss really. Again, I'd assumed that at most Clubs folk simply remained in the roles until they'd had enough or were 'pushed' out.
Might create a new survey asking what it is that encourages folk to take up these, increasingly, unrewarding roles...... or are they unrewarding?

During that time was there any financial 'inducement' ?
If the AM has picked up a lot of the Role what is the Committee now responsible for?

No, except I did get a free ticket to the Annual Prize Presentation Dinner. (But I was the 'host' - who introduced the guest speaker)
If the AM has to make any tricky decisions re discipline (never yet) or h'cap review etc. In addition the club is reviewing certain things on the course (eg bunkers, ponds, trees) and the committee will be assessing the possible CR and playability implications.
Of course much of the clerical work has reduced with increased use of PC and phone based functionality.

All volunteers at our course, and no free membership for a year for anyone either, not even the Captain. Ours club is based on a Board of Management who have positions for marketing, financial, greens & house, chairman and captain (all volunteers).
The council mainly now covers Captain, Vice Captain and handicap, again all volunteers, who are on council for a maximum of 3 years.
Getting the volunteers can be tough, but they do a great job and we're very grateful for them.

Don’t think we have a Match and Handicap role as such. The role is split between a volunteer unrewarded club member doing handicap side of things, and our assistant club manager (paid position) who is also our golf manager in that he does all the legwork setting up all the competitions and such as handling requests for extensions and rulings. On the latter and suchlike I assume he may liaise and consult with the Handicap Secretary.
