After a debate with a pillock in the clubhouse yesterday regarding marking balls on greens and objects you are able to use, I was informed by said fellow that due to me not having an handicap he wont play me in a friendly lol, I thought my wife was going for the best evils stare known to man!! That was the least of what he was like, at one stage he was that patronising to me due to only being in the game for 15 months (whereas he is on 6 years) that I actually had to say something about it, then he had the cheek to say he has more chances than me of becoming Captain (as he is Asian), I was like :confussed: as I never thought about it and cant see having time for it.

Does every club have a pillock like this? I ask as this is my first club and I am meant to be having my interview tonight but this ejit has put me off.

Parmo,

If you fancy said club then i'd go for it. Then when you do get your handicap put your name next to his for a comp and just talk him to death during the round, well, that's what i'd do, but i'm an annoying so and so..

That would have put me right off the club, what a plonker. What does he play off? He obviously fancies himself a bit as he wants to be club captain, not wait to be chosen like normal people do.

I bet he has a novelty headcover

what I mentioned he said was the start!! A few weeks back I had a quick 9 holes and fancied a quick pint but he collered me on the practice green and so ended up spending 5 minutes playing a game with his mate, I wasnt bothered and so just didnt try, he then stated last night I was a [****] putter and I should work on it!!!

I cancelled tonights meeting as the wife is ill, I need to have a think about joining if this ejit is always going to be about, everyone at the club is sound and friendly. This guy though a gob s***e I was putting up with and thought I would avoid in the 19th, but it seems most people think of him in the same lines.

Not often, I tend to play at the crack of dawn and do what needs to be done at home and the likes and pop back to the 19th with the wife later in the day, but he does seem to be there everytime I am grrr

You should tell the guy that whilst you appreciate any advice to help your game the last time you checked his name didn't appear on any leaderboard or a list of PGA pro's.

In otherwords jog on!

Parmo just tell the guy straight, he's a K**b and that you would prefere if he kept out of your way.

I hate people like this guy. They watch you play for 5 mins (coincidently the worst 5 mins you have played for ages) and they think they know your game. They start to tell you that 'you looked up too quickly' and start to tell you what you need to do. Watch them hit a ball and they are worse than you ever where.

Don't let him put you off. My guess is he's one of those idiots everyone avoids and so he has no one really to beat or give advice to, so first chance he gets, he will try it on a new commer because he was bullied as a school kid.

Failing all of the above dont work, just show him how you drive, with his nads.

If you like the course, it's handy, membership reasonable etc...then I'd personally join. If he is constantly in your face after you join just tell him to f off and bother someone else.

Its the club attached to a Muni, a good track none the less, it seems a lot of people are members there and elsewhere as its only $100 a year inc $30 bar card.

I was in the 19th the other week and he was trying to give yet again advice until someone reminded him of an airshot on the second lol

Sounds like a complete and utter tosser.

We get a bloke down the range who is the same, a right prat and he spends his whole life down the range and never on the course.

He once interrupted a decent pro who was there with his coach to offer advice, they laughed their heads off.

This goon is always there on a Sunday morning at 9am, sadly when I am there, and a few weeks ago I was hitting balls and all of a sudden these hands touched my right shoulder, said geezer was trying to align me better. I just told him in an incredibly patronising way to leave me alone to a muffled laughter from 6 or so other practising golfers.

He isnt even a decent golfer, he plays at one of the crappest clubs around (its clubhouse, and almost swallowed his 9-iron when he saw my princes bag-tag! It was priceless.

Parmo, can you not find a decent PM club for similar money up there, worth considering if so.

For what its worth though I would love to hear a tale of how you end up whipping his arse in a comp!

My advice would be to get your membership sorted for you and HID. Once you are in get playing regularly and meeting new guys and just drop it into conversations that you had met Mr X and he was really rude about you and your game. If people stand up and say he is the pillar of the club you may have problems but if like you say most people think he is an idiot then you know where you stand.

From what you said I woudn't be surprised if he put his name forward to be captain (as opposed to being voted as in most clubs) and then shouts RACE if he doesn't get it. I may be way off the mark and I hope so as I am not inherently racist but is just what I feel reading between the lines. Once you are in you can then tell him straight that his advice is ill founded and not required and that if he ever found himself short of a game you would rather not play than go out with him.

Watch him practicing and offer HIM some advice.
Ask how much he charges for lessons.
Ask him to nominate you for captain if you allow him to play with you.
Failing these just tell him to spin

I would not not join a club for the sake of one person. If I read your posts right then it would seem others in the club look on him in the same light as you do.

Every club has a select few members who think they are gods gift. Grin and bear it ia all I can say. You don't have to be friendly to him but don't be rude, just in case he does make it to Captain one day. You don't want to be on the Captain's blacklist...

Thanks for the advice fellas, yeah I am joining this one for the time being as I am not driving yet (I know!!) but start in Jan so by the end of the year I will have a motor and be able to get to the local decent clubs, was thinking of headingley or Cookridge but until that time I am stuck with just the one club.

As said I will be polite (I cant say as much for the wife as she put him straight herself last night) and just take him with a pinch of salt and make a point of sitting with other members who are great.
