They should take "previous" into consideration.
If I remember you were off 19..?
So it's a bit of a drop from 19 to 10 so levelling it off at 12 doesn't sound too bad..

Could be, the other two cards were trash too so maybe those factors came in.

Hi All,

My lifetime personal goal is to be a cat 2 golfer, I set that goal many years ago as I thought it was as good as I could get. Today I received my handicap and is it now down to 12 and into cat 2. This is a small thing to many here but it is a huge thing to me. I practice tirelessly, till my hands bleed, in rain and snow storms and this is the big ego boost I have worked so hard to enjoy.

As it happens I believe that the new handicap secretary has made a mistake and I believe I should actually have been given 10 as a handicap, I do not however think I could play off that so will not be chasing it up as he knows better than me.... maybe.

So, 12 handicap...... Ill never find a doubles partner again...... :o

I know its a me me me post but I wanted to share my huge excitement and pride at what I have achieved, I don't think I have ever been so proud of myself. A special feeling.

Alex

Nice one Al.

Im knocking on the door of it myself at the moment.......But here's a thought....You gave yourself that goal and now you've reached it you have to give yourself another.......Its a great achievement but what im getting from your post is that you would like to be lower......Ok Cat 2 goes down to 6..... To be honest with the drive you have i can appreciate your goals as im very similar to me.....Iv gone a bit further and said id be happy at a 5.....But if im honest i cant see myself being happy at that and would want more....

Its not greed just that you have to keep raising the bar in order to improve i think....Otherwise you'll always wonder could you get lower......

Ditch that 12 handicap and get moving for Cat 1 Pal......Ill race you to it.:whoo:

So far my reaction has been to practice more and more carefully... Oh and spend lots of money:D.

I'm thinking ill take a quick trip to 13 to meet you before heading down.... Not that I'm negative... I just want to be fair :D.

You better hurry on.....Come saturday im hoping that will be saying 12

The software works out the handicap for them, its not just the best card ....especially if the other 2 were dire. Mine would be 16 if the best card was the case. But still great achievement first job is to maintain...... then reduce!

It's not done by software. CONGU Says...

What are the requirements for obtaining a CONGU® Handicap ?

Having satisfied the requirements for membership of a Club, CONGU® requires that to get a handicap a player must submit cards from 54 holes of golf, marked by a person approved by the Club. The rounds must be played at that Club over a measured course and may consist of any mix of 9 hole or 18 hole cards, though the preference is for 3 x 18 hole scores. The Club will then adjust the returned scores, so that a lady never records more than 3 over par and a man never more than 2 over par on any individual hole. The cards are then assessed and the club allocates a CONGU® handicap based on the amount the lowest score returned exceeds the Standard Scratch Score of the course played (after taking into account other factors it considers relevant).

When the club considers it appropriate to the player's ability, a lower CONGU® handicap than that indicated by the scores may be allocated; particularly where the player has previously held an approved handicap. In exceptional circumstances a club may allocate a higher handicap than indicated by the scores returned. Once the Club has allocated a CONGU® handicap to a player, it becomes the player's Home Club for handicap purposes and it is responsible for administering and maintaining that CONGU® Handicap fully in accordance with the requirements of the System.

Although not specifically required by the System the Club may require the player to demonstrate a knowledge of the Rules of Golf and the etiquette of the game before allocating a handicap.

Congrats chap, delighted for you, nice to hear someone realising a goal by putting gold old fashioned graft in. Enjoy it! Fair play :)
