Re-gripping / Matching Grips

How often do you guys get your clubs re-gripped?

I recently replaced 11 out of the 15 clubs I own and this morning had my 5 wood re-gripped as its 3 and half years old now.. one of my most used clubs aswell.

Had a Vokey re-gripped yesterday as I had the shaft cut down to fit against my others (was 1/2 inch too long) so added a new grip to match the others

Does everyone match their grips? or replace whats needed when..

3 of my vokeys have the standard vokey grip.. the other has a golf pride tour velvet which matches my AP1s as thats their standard grip

2 new M2s (driver and 3 wood) they have their standard grips.. my 4 hybrid is a TM Jet speed so most likely a similar grip to the M2s and added a tour velvet to the 5 wood so it matches the irons as the most used club

Ive got a mate who when he does re grip (which is about every 2 years and he plays about 100 rounds a year and goes the range every week) he has to have them all matching.. he is talking about getting the M2 to replace his driver and he said he will most likely change the grip straight away to match

In a game where feel plays an important part, why wouldn't you go for matching grips ? With grips easily available and costing very little really, it's a simple task to do your own as often as you need.

Usually have them done each spring unless there is plenty of life left in them. If I add a new club to the bag automatically have it regripped to match, consistency in the grip important to me

I will have to look into it a bit, my 4 hybrid (TM Jetspeed) apparently has SB Iron Grip. the M2 fairway according to golfalot has a TM Arrow grip, and the M2 driver has a golf pride tour velvet, bit weird that the M2s are different so may have the 4 hybrid and the 3 wood re-gripped.. the wedges I believe vokeys stock grip is golf pride tour velvet just with vokey stamped on it

Many people have a preferred brand, type or even colour.....
Probably just as many couldn't care less....
It's a personal thing.
I like the original New Decade multi compound and may be doing a bit of regripping this week..

Do you do it yourself or get it done at the pro shop?

Im tempted to have my 4 Hybrid and fairway regripped depending how I like it when it arrives. I do find it a bit odd that Taylormade put a Golfpride tour velvet on the M2 driver but a different grip on the M2 fairway.. its the same series of club?!

Bit of research says all my grips are the same in irons/ wedges (just the wedges have BV wings stamped into the grip) the 5 wood I had re gripped to the same grip today. the M2 driver has this grip so 3 out of my 15 are different rest all match (one however is the putter so 2 out of 14)

I change mine myself. Always do all except the putter, once a year regardless.

I like them to match personally and am very tempted by the Lamkin REL ACE - any thoughts?

I've also begun to re grip myself as it's not as hard as you'd think.

I may have to look into learning how to do it.. doesnt seem overly hard to do.. just a bit of time and patience

I tend to use the basic Golf Pride for my irons.
Most of the others get the 'New Decade' treatment as and when needed.
Since I sometimes play with basically 3 or 4 types as many are still original.
It matters to me not.

Get all mine to be the same, usually go with sharpro grips. Cheap and just a good as golf pride. The only time they don't match is this time of year if I get new clubs, no point doing them now, as I'll do them just before the season starts.

Also do all my regripping myself as it's easy done and much cheaper.

I looked on Gamola and found some very reasonably priced UST Mamiya (not the basic 360s). I have these on some clubs I acquired a few years ago. I always liked the feel of them. Might invest in enough for 4-PW for some old Callaways.

Lamkin uTX for me, just had them all re gripped again plus my 2 spare clubs. Annual event about now for me.

i had about 8 or 9 different grips built up many years ago until I found what worked best for me (mid size, 4 extra wraps on the bottom hand). Last year golf price brought out the MCC plus 4 - a grip in that exact spec!

Just tried this on my putter grip that I recently fitted. Usually use a superstoke grip but couldn't get the one I wanted so went with a standard grip for cheapness and put 3 layers on the shaft then an extra 2 on the top of the grip to thicken it out. For me I just prefer a thicker grip for putting. Had never tried the extra layers under each hand but figured it could always take the grip off if need be.

I think if u feel that ur top hand needs more thickness just go with it because the lower hand rests on the upper hand you know that it can be less on that part.

nope just had a demo iron I had that was the same as my set regripped many times, settled on 3 extra wraps across the set, tried it on a wedge too at that point. the next time they were regripped added one more layer and had that set up ever since

I tend to get mine done every 12-15 months. I tend to buy off Gamola golf and my pro fixes them for the cost of the tape and his time. Suits me. I tend to clean them every two weeks which helps prolong the life of the grips
